This is a very good thing.
Which bit… e-visas in general, or the end of fast track?

The end of fast-track is devastating. Turns a less than 10-minute arrival into potentially hours :(

Many airport offer expedited service… whether more generally for premium cabin or status pax, or paid.

Doesn’t have to be linked to corrupt officials.

We used fast track a couple of months ago - seemed like a total waste of money - if you have your e-visa and customs declaration QR code - it seems anyone could just 'sail right through' - some guy met us at the gate and just walked in front of us; there were separate agents processing people who already had e-visas (no queue) then he waited while we collected our luggage then waited with us in the regular customs queue and dropped us at our pre-booked car transfer. The longest part of the whole process was waiting for the luggage. (Note for some reason the immigration agent required your boarding pass - so have that handy)

Yes. I wasn’t aware that e-visa has a separate line.

We were old skool… applying for VOA. With FT we were literally out the airport in 10 mins, no checked baggage though.

Well I just completed applying for a VOA for Bali (in advance of travel) - here are a few traps if you've never done this before:-

You must supply the name and address of your hotel (there are multiple address fields, including things like province, city, village, immigation office - !!??)) - all you need to do is (assuming you are staying in a hotel/resort) is enter the name of your hotel EXACTLY as shown on your booking and the web site will complete the other fields for you - but if you make any kind of error in the hotel name (even a typo which you backspace over and correct) this does not work - there is no way to get past this point. You must start the whole application over from scratch.

Once your application is completed and you have paid your fee online you receive and e-mail stating that your visa has been approved and you should download it using the huge DOWNLOAD button - this does not work - in fact the visa is attached as a PDF to the e-mail.

I must say this whole process took me hours to figure out (I had a few other issues which I won't bore you with - just to say be very careful with every field because if you try to EDIT your application - you essentially need to start over from scratch).
I am going through this now. As you say the process is full of traps and It certainly tries your patience.

I have one last issue - the date of issue of my passport is being populated with todays date yet it correctly reads the expiry date from the photo of my passport. Is this intentional (perhaps meaning issue date of visa) or do I need to correct this?

I would think so, I noticed that and changed the date on ours anyway, customs lines were busy, but in front of us was a group that had to go and fill in the customs form, so we got through quite quickly. Took longer to find our driver. :)
All in all, it was a very good experience, much better than I was anticipating, we could use the oldies lane as well, but the others seem to be moving quite quickly as well

Finally able to apply for visa today. I have loaded up passports and photos and passport details read successfully. Does this mean that the photos have been accepted and the visa will be issued once I have paid? Or can the photos still be rejected and we have to pay again?

You are likely good to go and should receive email confirmation soon.

Yes you were correct. Both visas received by email now.

Incidentally I paid using different cards. The cost is IDR 519,500 per visa.

BW MC - A$51.27
ING Visa - A$51.15

XE mid rate suggested cost should have been A$50.39.

This should be fun in ~6 weeks. We're flying CNX-SIN-DPS arring around midnight and departing around 10:00pm next night. I've booked 2 nights at HIX using points.

Wife and daughter have Thai passport so I believe no need for Visa. I've been tossing up whether to get eVisa or get a visa on arrival. With eVisa I'd need to apply when we are in Thailand. Luckily have email with passport photo from Australia Post done in September.

Has anyone had any success taking a selfie and then just cropping using mobile phone tools? Whats the aspect ratio they need?

Just to add my experience to the thread having just gone through the evoa process. Fairly smooth, although had to double check everything as first it misread the passport numbers (mistaking a 7 for 1), then somehow got the contact email address incorrect on the confirmation page (which led to a restart).

My experience was that, even though I was able to apply for the family in the same process, I had to pay for each separately.

And populating the post code was a great tip earlier up in the thread.
