Qantas Oneworld Award Planning (wiki content)

The Qantas oneworld Classic Flight Reward is a Qantas Frequent Flyer redemption for a distance-based ticket up to a maximum of 35,000 miles of travel, using 132,400 points in Economy, 249,600 points in Premium Economy, 318,000 points in Business or 455,000 points in First class.

See How to fly around the world using the Qantas Oneworld Award for a good summary of this material. Note, however, there is no requirement to actually fly around the world. It is perfectly acceptable to, for example, fly Australia-Asia-Europe-South-Africa-Australia. It is not a round the world product; it simply allows one to go round the world as one of the possibilities.

Rules

The conditions for the oneworld Classic Flight Reward are set out in the Qantas Frequent Flyer program terms and conditions.

In summary:

Redeeming Qantas Points for Reward Flights

13.1 General
  • This clause 13 applies to all Reward Flights, including Classic Flight Rewards and Points Plus Pay – Flights. Further provisions specific to Classic Flight Rewards and Points Plus Pay – Flights are set out in clauses 14 and 15 respectively.
  • Subject to Qantas Loyalty’s right to change them, all Reward Flights are governed by and subject to the Fare Conditions applicable to that Reward Flight and these Terms and Conditions at the time of booking (and can be viewed at this website or at jetstar.com as applicable). To the extent of any inconsistency, these Terms and Conditions prevail over the Fare Conditions (except as to the liability for airline travel which is governed by the applicable Fare Conditions).
  • Reward Flights must not be bought, sold, assigned, transferred or acquired other than in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and the applicable Fare Conditions. Qantas or Qantas Loyalty may cancel, confiscate or refuse to honour any Reward Flight dealt with contrary to these Terms and Conditions or the Fare Conditions and, if travel has commenced, any continued travel will be at the passenger’s expense.
  • Reward Flights are available only to Members and their Eligible Family Members. Members will be required to provide Membership details prior to obtaining a Reward Flight. Eligible Family Members may use the Reward Flight whether the Member travels with them or not. A Reward Flight issued for an Eligible Family Member must be redeemed in the name of the Eligible Family Member as shown on their passport or any other identification acceptable to Qantas Loyalty.
  • Despite any other provision of these Terms and Conditions, all travel is subject to the applicable carrier’s Conditions of Carriage.
13.2 Reward Flights – booking
  • The number of Qantas Points required to redeem a Reward Flight, and the Fare Conditions applicable to that Reward Flight, may be different depending on the type of Reward Flight chosen (ie Classic Flight Reward or Points Plus Pay – Flight). It is recommended that Members consider the Fare Conditions for each Reward Flight type before making a booking.
  • Bookings for Reward Flights will not be considered accepted until the required Qantas Points have been redeemed and any required payment made by Accepted Payment Card (including authorisation by the merchant bank or other form of payment administrator).
  • All Reward Flight bookings made or completed by telephone or in person will incur a Reward Assistance Fee, per passenger occupying a seat (see the Fee Schedule).
  • A Reward Flight Itinerary must contain no more than 16 Segments (including any Surface Segments).
  • Open-dated Flight Segments are not permitted in Reward Flight Itineraries. A Reward Flight booking must be a confirmed booking and may not be waitlisted.
  • If the Member is 15 years of age or younger, reservations must be made on their behalf by their parent or legal guardian. Note: restrictions and conditions apply to unaccompanied minors for all Reward Flights and different airlines apply different restrictions, conditions and definitions of what constitutes an ‘unaccompanied minor’. Further, unaccompanied minors cannot book or travel on a Points Plus Pay – Flight which includes a Flight on Jetstar or a Qantas Interline Airline. Refer to Qantas for details.
13.3 Reward Flights – ticketing

All Reward Flight bookings must be ticketed by E-Ticket where this is available.
Where an E-Ticket is to be issued, if a Reward Flight is booked more than seven days in advance, Qantas Loyalty will arrange for the E-Ticket receipt to be sent to the mailing address, e-mail address or fax number in the redeeming Member’s Membership Account. If the Reward Flight is booked less than seven days in advance, the E-Ticket receipt can be sent to the e-mail address or fax number in the redeeming Member’s Membership Account, or collected at the departure airport ticket counter and the passenger will need to present a photo ID to collect it.
Where a paper ticket is to be issued, if a Reward Flight is booked more than seven days in advance, Qantas Loyalty will arrange for the ticket to be sent to the mailing address in the redeeming Member’s Membership Account. If the Reward Flight is booked less than seven days in advance, the ticket may need to be collected at the departure airport ticket counter and the passenger will need to present a photo ID to collect it.
Reward Flight ticket coupons cannot be endorsed for use on any carrier other than Qantas, including other oneworld Alliance Airlines.
A Classic Flight Reward cannot be rebooked as, or changed into, an Points Plus Pay – Flight. A Points Plus Pay – Flight cannot be rebooked as, or changed into, a Classic Flight Reward.

Redeeming Qantas Points for Classic Flight Rewards

14.1 Classic Flight Rewards – general

Classic Flight Rewards are subject to airline inventory management and availability is limited. Qantas, oneworld Alliance Airlines and Airline Partners (including Jetstar Airlines) limit the number of Classic Flight Reward seats available to Members at their absolute discretion. The number of Classic Flight Reward seats available will depend on the flight, date, season, destination and commercial demand. Some flights may not have any Classic Flight Reward seats available. Once Classic Flight Reward seats on a flight have been filled there may be no more Classic Flight Reward seats available on that flight. Classic Flight Reward seats are booked in special classes of travel. If Classic Flight Reward seats are not available on a flight, Members may choose another flight, date or destination that has Classic Flight Reward seats available, or another Reward.
From time to time Classic Flight Reward blackouts may apply on particular flights operated by Qantas, oneworld Alliance Airlines and Airline Partners (including Jetstar Airlines). Contact Qantas Loyalty for information on specific Classic Flight Reward blackouts.

14.3 Classic Flight Rewards – booking conditions

In addition to the Qantas Points required for a Classic Flight Reward, Members must pay (or, where offered, redeem Points for) all amounts quoted at the time of booking and any applicable Reward Assistance Fees. This applies to all Classic Flight Rewards, whether these are provided by Qantas, a oneworld Alliance Airline or an Airline Partner (including Jetstar Airlines).
The number of Qantas Points required to redeem a Classic Flight Reward is published at qantas.com, and is subject to change in accordance with clause 3. The most current Point redemption levels are displayed at this website.
Children aged two years or older will need to redeem the full number of Qantas Points required to redeem for a Classic Flight Reward flight.
Infants under two years and not occupying a seat, travel without the need to redeem Qantas Points as long as the accompanying adult is travelling on a Classic Flight Reward. There is a limit of one infant per adult travelling on a Classic Flight Reward. Taxes, fees and carrier charges (including GST) may be payable in relation to infants as specified by Qantas Loyalty at the time a Member books a Classic Flight Reward.
A Classic Flight Reward Itinerary must contain no more than one departure from the city or country of first departure on that Itinerary.
Members cannot waitlist when using Classic Flight Reward tickets.
Classic Flight Rewards are not available on Codeshare Flights unless otherwise specified by Qantas Loyalty. Classic Flight Rewards must be booked using the airline code (eg QF for Qantas) of the Operating Carrier unless otherwise specified by Qantas Loyalty.
Not all routes and cabin classes of Airline Partners and oneworld Alliance Airlines are available for Reward Flights. Exclusions and limitations may change from time to time. Qantas Loyalty does not guarantee the continued availability of any particular route or cabin class for Rewards.
If a Member fails to board a Flight Segment of an itinerary containing only Classic Flight Reward Flight Segments, the remaining Segments will be cancelled. The cancelled Segments will only be reinstated if Classic Flight Reward seats are available. If any Segments are reinstated, the Reinstatement Fee will apply (see the Fee Schedule). In addition the Points required for the entire Itinerary including both travelled and reinstated Segments will be recalculated and any additional Points required will be deducted from the Member’s account.
Note: If a Member fails to board a Flight Segment of a Classic Flight Reward on a flight operated by a Jetstar Airline, the Flight Segment will be considered used and cannot be reinstated. Any recalculation of the Points for the Itinerary will include that Segment as travelled.

14.5 Classic Flight Rewards – oneworld Classic Flight Reward booking conditions

A oneworld Classic Flight Reward is a Classic Flight Reward Itinerary that includes travel on at least two oneworld Alliance Airlines other than Qantas and does not include any travel on any airline that is not a oneworld Alliance Airline.
Classic Flight Rewards using the oneworld Classic Flight Reward table must be no more than a distance of 56,315 kilometres (35,000 miles). Longer journeys must be broken into separate Itineraries.
A one way oneworld Classic Flight Reward Itinerary will be charged as a return Itinerary. oneworld Classic Flight Reward Itineraries finishing in a port other than the port of origin must include the distance to return directly to the port of origin when calculating the number of Points required to redeem the Flight Reward and the maximum distance for the Itinerary.
The following Stopover conditions apply to oneworld Classic Flight Rewards:
up to five free Stopovers are permitted;
additional Stopovers are not permitted;
only one Stopover is permitted in any one city in the Itinerary; and
only two Transfers may be taken at any one city in the Itinerary.
Surface Segments are permitted as part of oneworld Classic Flight Reward Itineraries, but the distance between the disembarkation point and the next embarkation point will be included in the Reward Point zone calculation for that Itinerary.
Where mixed-class travel is booked in a oneworld Classic Flight Reward, the whole Itinerary will be calculated using the Points level for the highest class booked.

Classic Flight Reward table

While a oneworld Classic Flight Reward can range in value between a shorter zone 1 award and a much longer zone 10 award, this wiki and associated thread concerns the zone 10 award primarily.

Fuel Surcharges – PoS Australia

Last updated by madrooster on 17 NOV 2017

Notes:

1. Fuel surcharges listed below are for tickets issued in Australia (ie. point of sale Australia), per one way flight/direction unless otherwise stated.
2. Fuel surcharges listed here may change without notice. The amounts shown will be the current amounts, ie. if you ticketed your oneworld award in the same month as the most recent update.
3. Some carriers file their fuel surcharges in a foreign currency, if this is applicable, then these are listed with the base currency given foreign exchange rates fluctuate.
4. These amounts do NOT include airport/government taxes.
5. Please note that the ticket point of sale may not necessarily be the same country as your first flight’s origin.
6. The below amounts are most useful to those who are originating in Australia on a oneworld award for approximating what their total fuel surcharges will be.
7. More data points would be highly appreciated – please PM your award record locator to madrooster for your data points to be extracted and added.
8. To calculate what your fuel surcharges should be on a oneworld award, find each flight that you are taking in the lists below and add the amount for each flight. For example, if you are flying BNE QF X/MEL EK SIN in J, then your fuel surcharge total will be 14.00 AUD + 240.00 AUD = 254.00 AUD.
