Joining Qantas Frequent Flyer for free

With over 10 million members, the Qantas Frequent Flyer program is arguably the most popular frequent flyer program in Australia. Technically it isn’t free to join as Qantas charge an $89.50 joining fee to Australian residents. But the good news is that there are a number of ways to avoid paying this fee altogether and join for free!

Probably the most widely-known method of joining for free is through the Woolworths Everyday Rewards program. Any member of Everyday Rewards can sign up for free by logging into their account online and using the link. And if you’re not already an Everyday Rewards member, that’s simple and free to join online as well. The process takes just a matter of minutes.

There are numerous other ways to avoid the joining fee. Interestingly, Qantas only charge the joining fee to Australian residents – meaning residents of other countries are exempt. New Zealand residents usually pay a lower fee of $50, though this fee is being waived for Kiwis until the end of the year. Residents of other countries don’t need to pay anything. So by signing up as a foreign resident, you too can avoid paying the joining fee. If you are an Australian and chose to sign up as a foreign resident, you could then change the address to an Australian one after joining if you wanted.

Or if you have either a UK or other European address you can use, register all via that as it is free to Overseas Customers and then change address back to OZ and hey presto FREE QFF Membership.

There are also a number of promotions floating around that provide free membership. One member has posted no less than three links to sites that allow you to sign up without the joining fee.

In some cases, customers of certain program partners can also sign up for free. For example, holders of credit cards that earn Qantas points can usually join the program at no cost. Partners such as Optus and Avis have also been known to offer free Qantas membership to their customers.

It’s a slightly different story when it comes to Aquire, Qantas’ loyalty program for businesses. There aren’t any simple methods of avoiding Aquire’s joining fee, however if you are considering joining, it might be worth waiting for a promotion. From time to time Qantas have offered bonus points or a reduced joining fee to new Aqurie members.

Neither program has an ongoing membership fee – so once you have joined, there is nothing more to pay.

With so many methods of joining Qantas Frequent Flyer for free, there really is no reason you should ever need to pay the $89.50 joining fee! Follow the discussion HERE.
