One member this week queries whether the extra cash or points are worth the luxury of flying in business class on a Sydney to Perth Flight.

For some members, this is a no-brainer and the immediate response is “of course”. The business class experience is undoubtedly better. However, putting a cash or points “value” on that experience is an individual assessment.

A more tentative approach is taken by some members and they advise it is important to know which aircraft type and check the seat map to determine if business class is worth the additional fare price. An evening flight is also preferable as you are likely to have access to a nicer meal and/ or alcoholic accompaniment! Also checking to see if the Skybed product is available on the aircraft may also be a deal maker or breaker.

Some members have a flight duration limit and for one particular member, only if the flight exceeds 10 hours will they consider upgrading via points. Another member agrees with this basic premise and does not use points to upgrade on domestic flights ever.
