Woolworths Rewards Boosts Qantas Points

Woolworths has increased the amount of Qantas Frequent Flyer points you’ll receive when converting Woolworths Rewards points. Once earned, you’ll also now receive your Qantas points much sooner than before.

You can earn 1 Woolworths Rewards point per $1 spent at Woolworths, BWS, Big W and Caltex-Woolworths fuel outlets. Each time you reach 2,000 points, you can choose to either receive a $10 discount off a Woolworths shop or opt-in to convert the points to Qantas Frequent Flyer points.

Until last month, you would receive 870 Qantas points for every 2,000 Woolworths Rewards points transferred and conversions would take place every three months.

From 1 October 2019, you’ll receive 1,000 Qantas points per 2,000 Woolworths Rewards points – that’s a 15% increase. In addition, you’ll no longer need to wait for the end of each three-month cycle. If you’ve opted in to earning Qantas points, Woolworths will now convert your points within 24 hours of reaching 2,000 Woolworths Rewards points.

With the Coles Flybuys program, 2,000 Flybuys points are worth 870 Virgin Australia Velocity points. However, there are regular promotional offers where you can earn an additional 15% Velocity points on Flybuys transfers. When there is a 15% bonus on offer, you’re effectively earning 1,000 Velocity points for every 2,000 Flybuys points transferred anyway.

Woolworths Rewards does not generally offer promotional or limited-time bonuses on Qantas Frequent Flyer transfers.

These changes make Woolworths Rewards just a little bit more compelling for those collecting Qantas Frequent Flyer points. However, Flybuys still has generally superior targeted bonus point offers. You also have the ability to earn Velocity status credits when shopping at Coles – something that Qantas does not offer for shopping at Woolworths.
