Redeeming Velocity Points for a Family Holiday

This week one member seeks the community’s recommendations for a family holiday destination that can be reached using Velocity points. AFF member unfunkable is looking for a destination where they take their family of four to relax. While Hawaii had been the destination of choice, there are too few award seats available through Velocity Frequent Flyer to make this viable. So, with 600,000 Virgin Velocity points available to use, where should this member go?

I’ve pretty much given up the hope of flying to Hawaii on points for myself and family (4 all up). For the last month, I have been looking everyday for the new days that get released, and have yet to see an award seat come up.

So where are some good places a family of 4 can go to chill-out, relax, + safe place that would have some kind of decent availability for award seats. Prefer business class, as we have never flown business before and want to see what the fuss is all about!

Finding four Business class award seats on a single flight can be challenging at the best of times. But it’s not impossible. The consensus among our members is to fly Singapore Airlines to a South East Asian destination. Singpaore Airlines offers multiple daily flights from many Australian cities to Singapore, with connecting flights to most Asian destinations. What’s more, it’s generally possible to find four award seats on Singapore Airlines flights if you’re flexible with travel dates.

Recommended South East Asian destinations include Hua Hin, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui (Thailand), Hoi An (Vietnam) and Bali (Indonesia). The Maldives has also come up in discussion as a possible destination.

Somewhere like Hua Hin and Chiang Mai would be suitable and away from the usual drunken tourists.

I just did New Years over at Koh Samui, I think it ticks most of your boxes on relax, chill and safe. Cheap beer as well!

Good SQ availability to Bali also. We have been twice with our nearly 3 old. Lots of family friendly resorts to choose from.

Another left-field option is Fiji. Virgin Australia fly to Nadi using an A330 with 20 lie-flat Business class seats on a seasonal basis. Not only is this a great Business class product and a good use of points, but Fiji would appear to tick all the right boxes as a destination as well.

How about Fiji? VA using A330 fitted with the business seats, i found business reward seats available for a weekend A330 return trip in august.
