Heading north for some winter warmth

We are currently approaching one year since Qantas stopped selling JASAs, or business class Any Seat Awards. These awards were very popular as our members were able to book reward seats at classic award prices, and also earn points and status credits for the journey.

Some of our clever members, such as amaroo, bought one last JASA right before Qantas stopped selling them. Fast forward almost twelve months, and our member is using it to travel to Singapore and Bangkok for some winter warmth.

The trip will get our member over the line to Platinum. The Qantas first class lounge will be awaiting once our member returns from the trip with a shiny new Platinum card!

Our member began the trip by flying to Sydney and onto Singapore. The flight to Singapore was notable for being so empty our member describes the load as “financially worrying”.

From what I could see – everyone in J had a shadow. In the forward J cabin – the FA’s did their best impression of a Lufthansa First Class arrangement. Everyone had a seat/bed combo 20mins after takeoff.

Soon enough our member arrived in the Thai capital of Bangkok, where the Peninsula Hotel once again impressed.

There are three things that make The Pen BKK special – location/views, breakfast and pool! Have stayed at many hotels around the world that put on a decent spread for brekkie … this one sits at the top of list IMO.

The hotel even runs a free shuttle service to locations around the city. But why use a bus, when the hotel is on the river?

Just as impressive was the Qantas lounge in Singapore, which gets multiple visits on this trip. The newly opened lounge is a hit with many of our members for its food, service and ambience.

After what looked to be a most enjoyable weekend away that has even managed to inspire some to follow in our member’s footsteps, our member returned to find a shiny new Platinum card.
