There is much more value in the Coles Flybuys loyalty program than first meets the eye! At first glance, it doesn’t seem like a great deal… you earn 1 Flybuys point for every dollar spent at Coles supermarkets, and you need to earn 2,000 points to get a $10 voucher. But you can earn more Flybuys points by taking advantage of Flybuys’ plentiful bonus offers. Why spend $2,000 to get 2,000 points… when you can spend $200 and earn 10,000 points?!
The key to earning more Flybuys points is to maximise the targeted promotional offers. Flybuys regularly sends offers to its members via email. It also places offers on your shopping receipt and sends vouchers in the mail.
The trick to getting the best offers is to trick Coles into thinking you shop less often and spend less than you actually do. That’s because the offers are designed to encourage you to spend more. Crucially, the offers are tailored to every individual member. So, you’ll get an offer with a much lower spend target if Coles thinks you don’t usually spend very much.
A simple way to trick Coles is to only scan your Flybuys card every second shop. You’ll forgo a few points initially, but the improved offers you’ll receive will more than compensate!
A common Flybuys offer is 10,000 points for spending a certain amount over several weeks (see the image above). That’s equivalent to 4,437 Virgin Australia Velocity points.
You can even combine multiple offers, boosting your Flybuys points balance even further!
When given a choice, always choose the Flybuys points over the discount. The points can later be converted to a $50 discount, but the discount can’t be converted to frequent flyer points.
