Virgin Fare Glitch: Fair or not?

One member this week is horrified at what they perceive is a potential fraud on behalf of Virgin when booking via the Virgin website. This member booked a flexi-fare and upon selecting the relevant fares and attempting to pay, the price was $17 more than the advertised price and no explanation was given for the surcharge. The same occurred with a saver lite- one leg journey. The member was promised a refund but this has not been forthcoming.

One member reports complaining about this issue some months ago and no solution has yet occurred. Many members have experienced the same issue when completing “dummy” bookings on the site.

This strange phenomenon has caused many of our members to query whether this is a technological glitch or something more sinister. The widespread nature of the problem has caused one member to suggest a complaint be made to the relevant consumer commission. Our members feel strongly that a response and/or explanation from Virgin ought to be forthcoming.

Stop Press: Some members are now reporting that this error has been fixed and it was an IT issue. You can follow the full discussion HERE.
