Air Asia will commence non-stop flights from Perth to Lombok in Indonesia from 9 June 2019. The new route offers Perth residents an alternative to Bali, and there are some great launch fares available from just $155 return.

The Perth-Lombok flights will run 4 times per week on an Airbus A320 aircraft operated by Indonesia Air Asia. The outbound flight, QZ471, will depart Perth at 7.30pm for an 11.25pm arrival in Lombok. The return QZ470 leaves Lombok mid-afternoon for a 6.40pm landing in the West Australian capital.

Fly to Lombok from $155 return

Air Asia currently has some super launch fares available on its new Perth-Lombok route. Flights from Perth to Lombok are currently offered for as little as $100.50 one-way, with return flights available from $54.50. These fares are almost certainly below-cost, but airlines often release good deals when launching a new route to get free publicity. (And, hey, it’s working!)

The quoted prices do not include bags, meals or seat selection. You can add these by purchasing a “value pack” for $32.58 each way, bringing the total round-trip price to $220.16.

Lombok is a new Air Asia hub

The island of Lombok is located to the east of Bali, an extremely popular holiday destination with Australians. Over 1 million Australians already visit Bali every year, and there are already 155 weekly return flights to Bali from eight Australian cities – an average of 22 per day. But the new Air Asia flights will become the only direct link between Australia and Lombok.

Lombok is connected to the island of Bali by boat or a 30-minute flight and is often touted as a less-crowded version of Bali.

Indonesia Air Asia announced back in January 2019 that it would set up a small hub in Lombok as the island recovers from a devastating earthquake last year. Two aircraft will be based in Lombok and will fly from there to Kuala Lumpur, Denpasar, Yogyakarta and Perth.

Malindo Air is also expanding its Australia-Indonesia services

Malindo Air is also planning to launch new flights from Indonesia to Australia in the very near future. Malindo Air expects to launch 4-weekly flights from Adelaide to Denpasar, which will continue to Kuala Lumpur, as early as next month. It’s also planning the imminent launch of Sydney-Denpasar-Kuala Lumpur flights in June.

The flights would be operated by Boeing 737s and complement Malindo Air’s existing Brisbane-Denpasar-Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne-Denpasar-Kuala Lumpur services. Tickets for the new routes are not yet on sale.
