How to Buy Discounted Woolworths Vouchers

How to Buy Discounted Woolworths Gift Cards

It was once possible to purchase Woolworths WISH gift cards at a 5% discount through Cashrewards, as well as Entertainment Book, various clubs, insurance and utility providers. It’s free to join Cashrewards, so this had been a popular way to get a 5% discount on gift vouchers that could be redeemed at Woolworths Group retailers including Woolworths, Big W and Dan Murphy’s.

Sadly, Woolworths stopped providing discounted WISH gift cards via Cashrewards and many other organisations in November 2020.

With Cashrewards you can still get discounts or cashback when buying many other gift cards including from Harvery Norman, Myer, Hoyts and Uber. You can also still save money when shopping with lots of online retailers. But you’ll need to look a little further afield to find discounted Woolworths gift cards in 2022…

NSW Seniors cardholders can still get 5% off WISH gift cards

WISH cards are not store-specific, making them the most useful of the Woolworths Group gift cards. They can be redeemed at a variety of Woolworths Group stores including Woolworths, Big W, Caltex, BWS, Cellarmasters and Dan Murphy’s.

Although WISH gift cards are no longer available to most people at a full 5% discount, there is an exception.

NSW residents with a Seniors Card can still get a full 5% discount off WISH gift cards bought via the NSW Seniors online portal. To be eligible for a NSW Seniors Card you would need to live in NSW, be aged 60 or over, and do less than 20 hours per week of paid work.

Even if you don’t qualify for a NSW Seniors Card, you may still be able to get 3% off WISH gift cards if you are a member of your state’s automobile club or association (e.g. if you’re an NRMA or RACV customer), SDA NSW, through Entertainment Book, or as an Alinta Energy customer.

You can still get 4-5% off store-specific Woolworths Group gift cards

While the discount on WISH gift cards has generally dropped to 3%, you could still get a 4% or 5% discount on gift cards for specific Woolworths Group retailers through your insurance or electricity provider, or through Entertainment Book.

Most state-based automobile associations, for example, give the following eGift card discounts to their members:

  • Big W – 5% off
  • Dan Murphy’s – 5% off
  • BWS – 5% off
  • Woolworths – 4% off
  • Caltex Woolworths petrol – 3% off

As you can see, it’s still possible to get a higher 5% discount at Big W, Dan Murphy’s and BWS, or 4% off Woolworths gift cards. The obvious trade-off is that these store-specific cards can only be used at one specific retailer.

You can find more information about accessing these discounts on the website of your state’s car association:

MacquarieHCF and existing Woolworths Mobile customers may also be able to access a 4% discount on Woolworths gift vouchers.

While the Woolworths gift card discounts available are now somewhat reduced and less accessible in 2022, there are still options to save significant money on your grocery shopping. A 4-5% discount may not seem like much, but it adds up over the thousands of dollars most households spend on groceries every year!

If you regularly shop at Woolworths, you can also access a 10% discount off your shopping at Woolworths and Big W up to once per month, up to a spend of $500 each time, by taking out an Everyday Extra subscription.

Seems that the 5% is going.

I just got an email from Cashrewards saying they are ending the 5% discount on Woolworths gift cards. From 21 October, the discount reduces to 3% and from 19 November, the discount will be unavailable.

The email does say they are "working on some other exciting ways to help you save at Woolworths Group brands", so I guess we'll just have to watch this space.

I'll be stocking up while the 5% discount is still available...

Suspect Cashrewards will have some large purchases on the day or two prior. I will do mine earlier to make sure there are no glitches., plus my statement date is 29 October anyway and so there is not advantage in waiting till the last minute.

I use them to triple dip into Caltex for a second 5% off my fuel and i pay for the Woolies gift cards using Amex Platinum Edge.
i have about $25,000 Woolies gift cards to cover off Christmas.
i use RACWA and it ports into Woolies site for 5% discount.

My employer sponsored spending program doesn't have any news about reduction in beneifts and also as an AGL member they also have no indication of a reduction.

The employer sponsored site has it's own check out (meaning AMEX comes with a penalty) whereas the AGL directs to the same site the Cashrewards sends you to (meaning AMEX may be OK)

I suspect that AGL may be throttled at some time but my Employer sponsored site maybe OK where I can by Coles Gift Cards (albeit reduced from 5% to 4%), so looks like Woolies falling into line with Coles.

I looked further, AGL also dropping to 3%.

I'm not now holding out much hope with my employer sponsored plan. I better buy up as I have a few credit cards I've recently approved for and need to hit minimum spend.

Am I correct in assuming that we are actually buying woollies gift cards from woollies and not cash rewards. Reason i ask is that I am tempted to buy more but not sure if Cashrewards are financially stable. Obviously if you buy through woollies no issues.

Cash rewards take you to a Woolworths site and apply a discount of 5% (same site if going via Woolworths but without a discount).

So I'm pretty certain the benefit purchased is a liability to Woolworths....and it is backed up by an entry in their annual report.

Credit where it’s due: At least Cashrewards have given us a few days notice.

That doesn’t appear to be the case with other businesses that offer the WOW EGC at -5%.
