I just got an email from Cashrewards saying they are ending the 5% discount on Woolworths gift cards. From 21 October, the discount reduces to 3% and from 19 November, the discount will be unavailable.

The email does say they are "working on some other exciting ways to help you save at Woolworths Group brands", so I guess we'll just have to watch this space.

I'll be stocking up while the 5% discount is still available...

Cashrewards said:
ENDING SOON: Save 5% on Woolworths Gift Cards
As a valued Cashrewards member, we want to tell you about upcoming changes to our Woolworths Gift Card program.

  • From 21 Oct 2020, we’ll offer 3% discount on Woolworths Gift Cards.
  • From 19 Nov 2020, no further discounts will be available.

This decision applies to a wide range of partners advertising Woolworths Gift Cards and lies outside the control of Cashrewards.

Stock up and save

There’s still time to save 5% instantly with Woolworths Gift Cards. Stock up now to keep on saving at Woolworths, Dan Murphy’s, BIG W, BWS, Caltex and more.

In the meantime, we're working on some other exciting ways to help you save at Woolworths Group brands.

Discussed here (with details of other businesses also making similar announcements):

Seems that the 5% is going.

Suspect Cashrewards will have some large purchases on the day or two prior. I will do mine earlier to make sure there are no glitches., plus my statement date is 29 October anyway and so there is not advantage in waiting till the last minute.

I use them to triple dip into Caltex for a second 5% off my fuel and i pay for the Woolies gift cards using Amex Platinum Edge.
i have about $25,000 Woolies gift cards to cover off Christmas.
i use RACWA and it ports into Woolies site for 5% discount.

My employer sponsored spending program doesn't have any news about reduction in beneifts and also as an AGL member they also have no indication of a reduction.

The employer sponsored site has it's own check out (meaning AMEX comes with a penalty) whereas the AGL directs to the same site the Cashrewards sends you to (meaning AMEX may be OK)

I suspect that AGL may be throttled at some time but my Employer sponsored site maybe OK where I can by Coles Gift Cards (albeit reduced from 5% to 4%), so looks like Woolies falling into line with Coles.

I looked further, AGL also dropping to 3%.

I'm not now holding out much hope with my employer sponsored plan. I better buy up as I have a few credit cards I've recently approved for and need to hit minimum spend.

Am I correct in assuming that we are actually buying woollies gift cards from woollies and not cash rewards. Reason i ask is that I am tempted to buy more but not sure if Cashrewards are financially stable. Obviously if you buy through woollies no issues.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Cash rewards take you to a Woolworths site and apply a discount of 5% (same site if going via Woolworths but without a discount).

So I'm pretty certain the benefit purchased is a liability to Woolworths....and it is backed up by an entry in their annual report.

I get mine through Suncorp and there is a message on their rewards app this morning saying that from 10am today (19th) they will drop to be only 3% off.

I get my through Entertainment Book. No word from them about a reduction on Wish cards.

You can still make a good saving with the 3% and all of our other giftcard offers are currently staying the same

Being reduced to 3%.

Given the number of other sources of these cards that are also being reduced, I can't see any 5% offering surviving. Act immediately to stock up if you haven't already done so - I've already seen reports on Ozbargain of the Woolworths site having problems processing applications.

I haven't heard anything from RACQ, so fingers crossed the 5% discount continues through them.
indeed still nothing from RACQ. But given every other source seems to be changing early this week, it would not surprise me if RACQ is going to change too and just has not notified members of the change yet. Today is my Amex Statement date, so probably would be prudent for me to purchase some today, just to be sure.

While the discount offered on gift card could be considered a "loss" from WW perspective, I suggest that it is possible/likely that more than 5% of the value of purchased gift cards are never redeemed. Lost cards, sitting in drawers, expired. Although the expiry duration has been extended in recent years. I suggest that its still a very good revenue source for companies like WW. They get the money up-front, with redemption often taking months/years to complete, and that money has already been spent within the WW group and not going going to be spent at a competitor later.

Well quite. I shall be stocking up in the next day or so too.

Does anyone know if the NSW Seniors card will still be offering the 5% off Woolies cards?
