Is it Worth Joining Club Jetstar?

If you’ve recently booked with Jetstar, you may have been offered a discount on your flight for joining Club Jetstar.

Although Jetstar doesn’t have its own frequent flyer program, you can earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points when flying with the budget airline. Jetstar also offers memberships to Club Jetstar, a subscription service that provides various discounts.

With several hundred thousand members, Club Jetstar is a popular subscription program. It costs $65 to join for a year, and renewal costs $55 annually.

In exchange for your $65 annual fee, Club Jetstar membership gets you access to the following benefits:

• Discounted member-only airfares
• Early and/or exclusive access to selected Jetstar sales
• 20% off bags and seat selection when booking at jetstar.com
• 15% off Hertz car rental bookings and 10% off other car hire bookings made through Jetstar
• 20% off travel insurance when booked in conjunction with a Jetstar flight
• Discounts with endota spa

You can use these benefits when booking travel for yourself and up to four other people on the same booking.

Keep in mind that Club Jetstar is not a frequent flyer program. It is a subscription service that will automatically renew each year until you cancel, and the membership fee is non-refundable.

Club Jetstar Extras

Today, Club Jetstar launched an optional paid add-on called “Qantas Frequent Flyer Extra”, which is part of a new offering called Club Jetstar Extras.

Normally, you wish to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points and status credits for Jetstar flights, you’ll need to purchase an eligible bundle with your flight. (Club Jetstar does not give you a discount on these fare bundles.)

If you want to earn Qantas Points and status credits on any Jetstar fare – or bonus points and status credits on fares that do already earn – you can purchase a Qantas Frequent Flyer Extra add-on for $199/year.

Is Club Jetstar worth it?

If you travel with Jetstar regularly, Club Jetstar could very well pay for itself! Even after booking just a few trips per year, you could have already got back your $65 investment.

However, the discounts are not available on all flights – and may not necessarily be available on any flights that you actually want to book.

Ultimately, it comes down to whether you think you’ll save more than $65 per year on flights, seat selection and baggage charges.

There are a few other benefits, such as exclusive member offers from partners like Hertz and endota spa. But it’s probably not worth signing up just for those benefits.

Club Jetstar members saved $32 million in 2023

The low-cost carrier says that its Club Jetstar members have saved a combined total of $32 million in airfares, seat selection and baggage fees in 2023 alone.

If there were 365,000 members in that year, that means Jetstar collected around $20 million in membership fees. So, on average, it does indeed seem like members were saving more money than they’re spending on Club Jetstar!

How one family saved $20,000 with Club Jetstar

In fact, one Sydney-based family has saved over $20,000 on airfares since joining Club Jetstar around ten years ago.

Joshua and Julie Brown have travelled to almost every destination on the Jetstar network. Their three children have also come along on many of their trips.

“As a family of five travel can become quite expensive and by using the membership and the sales we are able to take our family away to destinations that wouldn’t be possible without Jetstar. Most friends and family are shocked at the amount we save and at how often we can travel,” Joshua and Julia said.

“We take at least one big trip overseas a year and try to add a few different destinations into the one trip. We either do a longer 2-3 week holiday or 2 one week overseas trips, plus we will do 2 or 3 shorter domestic trips a year.

“We believe in working hard and travelling often. We are both busy working parents so holidays for us are a way of switching off from life and connecting with our children and creating some life long memories.”
