Velocity Frequent Flyer’s twice-yearly transfer bonus offer is back for May 2023. During this month, you can earn 15% bonus Velocity points when transferring points from many participating credit card and hotel loyalty programs.

To earn the bonus points, you’d need to transfer points into Velocity Frequent Flyer between 1 and 31 May 2023. This offer is open to all Velocity members, with no registration required. You can view the full T&Cs on the Velocity Frequent Flyer website.

Velocity is the loyalty program of Virgin Australia. You can use Velocity points towards flights or upgrades on Virgin Australia, as well as reward seats on partner airlines including Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, United, Air Canada, Hawaiian Airlines and Etihad. See our overview of Velocity redemptions for more details.

Participating loyalty programs

An extensive range of bank-operated loyalty programs and hotel loyalty programs are participating in Velocity’s May 2023 promotion. This includes all of the credit card reward programs that offer point transfers to Velocity Frequent Flyer.

You can even get 15% bonus points when transferring CommBank Awards points to Velocity this month, which isn’t always the case when these kinds of promotions are running.

Here’s the full list of programs, as per the Velocity website:

If you happen to have Amex Membership Rewards points that you’ve earned from an Amex Platinum, Amex Platinum Business or Amex Centurion charge card, you’ll also get an additional 5% bonus points on transfer to Velocity this month. That brings the total bonus points to 20%.

The bonus points don’t apply if you have a co-branded Velocity Frequent Flyer card that exclusively earns Velocity points, or if your credit card points automatically transfer to Velocity every month.

Is that by invite only? Anything I can do to start receiving those offers? Roughly how often do they run?

It's usually a general offer open to all. Only one of the four Velocity accounts in our family got the email for some reason, despite all accounts being opted in to receive everything email marketing wise... I assume it will be more widely publicised from Monday when the offer starts.

Oh, and Point Hacks has a list of previous offers. May has been a regular over the last couple of years: Transfer CommBank Award Points to Velocity for a 15% bonus - Point Hacks

The 15% bonus offer that usually runs in May and November is generally open to all.

Thanks for the heads up!

It’s good timing since I should have bonus points from a credit card signup arriving that month. I hope the 15% will apply to those too.

OK, but I have three cards that earn Velocity points, so how are they going to figure out my percentage?

Edit: two fall under the 20% banner
