All Australian state & territory governments have been giving away free travel vouchers recently to encourage people to explore their own state and support struggling tourism and hospitality businesses.

Travel vouchers are still available to all adult residents of NSW, who can access up to $100 worth of vouchers to spend at restaurants, museums and more. Queensland residents, meanwhile, will shortly have the opportunity to enter a ballot for travel discount vouchers that can be spent with tourism operators in Brisbane and the Whitsundays. Free vouchers to spend at participating ACT businesses will also soon be offered in the ACT.

Here’s how to claim your voucher if you live in each state…

NSW Discover Vouchers

All NSW residents aged 18 and over are eligible for 4x $25 “Discover” vouchers. These consist of 2x $25 Dine NSW vouchers which can be used at restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs and wineries when dining in (although, the voucher T&Cs say that you can’t redeem for alcohol). You’ll also get 2x $25 Discover NSW vouchers which can be used at cultural venues such as museums, cinemas, theatres and for recreational activities. The vouchers can only be used at participating NSW businesses and will need to be redeemed by 30 June 2021.

See the Service NSW website for more information.

QLD Holiday Dollars

The Queensland government is offering destination-specific “Holiday Dollars” vouchers to Queensland residents aged over 18, using a “lottery” system. Anyone who is eligible for the vouchers can enter a draw when registrations are open, and winners will be randomly selected until all the allocated vouchers are used up.

Cairns & Great Barrier Reef Holiday Dollars have already been given away. Registrations for Brisbane Holiday Dollars will be open from 27-30 April 2021 (starting midday tomorrow). There are 30,000 Brisbane vouchers available, each worth up to $100. Winners will be announced from 6 May, and will have until 4 June to redeem their vouchers for a 50% discount off tours, attractions and accommodation in the greater Brisbane area, up to a $100 discount. Travel needs to be completed by 15 August 2021.

Registrations will also soon open for Whitsundays Holiday Dollars vouchers worth up to $200 each. See the Queensland government website for more information.

ACT “Choose CBR” Vouchers

The ACT government completed a trial of its “Choose CBR” voucher scheme for ACT residents in late 2020. The full program is due to launch later this year.

See the Choose CBR website for more information.

All other states have already offered tourism vouchers to residents of those states, however registration for these programs has now concluded. These schemes included:
