Singapore Airlines Releases First Saver Awards to Melbourne

Singapore Airlines First Class Saver award seats are now available to book using KrisFlyer miles between Melbourne and Singapore.

Over the past year or so, very few First Saver award seats have been available to book to or from Australia using Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles. Some of the more expensive First Advantage awards have been offered, but not confirmable Saver awards which require fewer miles to book. This has now changed.

It comes as Singapore Airlines prepares to upgrade one of its daily Melbourne-Singapore flights to an Airbus A380 from 16 May 2023. The airline will also upgrade a second daily Sydney-Singapore service to an A380 from 17 May 2023.

The new First Saver availability between Melbourne and Singapore can actually be found on one of the Boeing 777-300ER flights, rather than the new A380 service. But the overall increase in capacity on the route may have swayed the airline’s decision to finally release some First Saver seats.

The new Airbus A380 flights to Sydney and Melbourne are made possible by Singapore Airlines taking the A380 off its Singapore-Frankfurt-New York route. That route will soon be flown by a Boeing 777 instead.

Which flights have First Saver space?

One First Saver award seat can currently be found on the flights SQ207 and SQ208 on various Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout 2023. SQ207 is the morning flight from Singapore to Melbourne and SQ208 is the early evening departure from Melbourne to Singapore.

A First Saver award from Australia to Singapore costs 93,500 KrisFlyer miles + $89.77 one-way.

For a return First Class Saver booking from Melbourne to Singapore, you could expect to pay 187,000 KrisFlyer miles + $182.15 taxes.

If you’re lucky, at the moment you may even be able to find First Saver availability on Singapore Airlines all the way from Melbourne to London.

Many other flights from both Melbourne and Sydney to Singapore have First Advantage space, including some flights on Airbus A380s with Suites.

These seats are available to book using Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles only. Singapore Airlines does not generally release First Class award space to Star Alliance partner airlines, and Velocity Frequent Flyer has not yet resumed allowing members to redeem points for Singapore Airlines First Class.

If you have Velocity points, though, you can convert these to KrisFlyer miles. It’s also possible to transfer points from most Australian credit card reward programs into KrisFlyer.

Singapore Airlines flights now available to book for November 2023

Until a few days ago, Singapore Airlines had not yet loaded any flights into its schedule beyond 28 October 2023. This was because the airline was still finalising its schedules for the next IATA northern winter season. But flights beyond this date are now available to book.

There is currently excellent Business Saver award availability on Singapore Airlines flights to/from Australia when booking with KrisFlyer miles up to 355 days in advance.
