Avianca regularly offers up to 145% bonus miles on LifeMiles purchases. But, thanks to a current “share LifeMiles” promotion, you can acquire LifeMiles even cheaper!

With the current offer, the recipient will receive 125% bonus miles when you “share” miles with another LifeMiles member. Basically, you can transfer your LifeMiles to another member at the usual price of USD15 per thousand and the recipient will receive 225% of the amount of miles transferred. Once transferred, the miles should arrive in the recipient’s account instantly. This offer expires on 3 April 2019.

To take advantage of this promotion, you would need to already have some LifeMiles in your account. And you’d need to have a friend or family member with their own LifeMiles account.

Say, for example, that you currently had 30,000 LifeMiles in your account. You could transfer these LifeMiles to a friend for a fee of USD450 (USD15/1,000) and your friend would receive 67,500 LifeMiles.

Your friend could then transfer 67,000 LifeMiles back to you (note that you can only share LifeMiles in multiples of 1,000 miles) at a cost of USD1,005. You would then receive 150,750 LifeMiles. That’s 120,750 LifeMiles more than when you started, and you’ll have spent USD1,455 (~AUD$2,050).

120,750 LifeMiles is more than enough for a one-way award flight from Australia to Europe in First Class, or a round-trip ticket to Asia in First Class. (You’d just need to pay any taxes and booking fees when redeeming the miles.)

It normally costs USD33 to buy 1,000 LifeMiles. When 145% bonus LifeMiles are being offered (the maximum bonus amount that’s been offered when buying LifeMiles in the past), this brings the cost down to USD13.47 per 1,000 miles. But with the current “share miles” offer, the cost works out to be around USD12 (~AUD$17) per 1,000 miles.

The maximum number of LifeMiles that any single member can share or receive in a calendar year is 75,000 miles, excluding bonus miles.

Some LifeMiles members have reported technical problems when attempting to share LifeMiles online. If this happens, try completing the transaction in a different browser.

I just did A-B-A as using 2 different browsers without connecting to VPN. Worked fine. When doing B-A, the site showed an error at the end but credit card was charged and points were transferred instantly.
