Velocity Frequent Flyer’s twice-yearly points transfer offer is back for May 2022, with up to 30% bonus Velocity points available when you transfer points from an eligible credit card, hotel or supermarket loyalty program!

With this offer, you can earn 15% more Virgin Australia Velocity points on transfers from 12 other loyalty programs including American Express Membership Rewards, NAB Rewards, Westpac Altitude, St George Amplify and IHG One Rewards. You can get 15% bonus points when recycling with Envirobank, too.

Velocity is also offering 15% extra bonus points (a 30% bonus in total) when you transfer from various specific loyalty programs including Citi Rewards and Suncorp Bank Rewards, while ANZ Rewards transfers attract an additional 5% bonus (20% in total) this month.

This month’s offer is running alongside another excellent offer for new Velocity credit card holders.

Which loyalty programs are participating?

The Velocity Frequent Flyer website contains a full list of loyalty programs participating in this month’s offer, as well as the terms & conditions.

If you transfer points from the following loyalty programs to Virgin Australia Velocity during May 2022, you can get 20% or 30% bonus points:

Citi Rewards, Card Services, BOQ, Diners Club, Suncorp, Amex, ANZ Rewards, ANZ Business Rewards
Velocity is offering 20-30% bonus points when transferring from these loyalty programs.

Note that the 20% bonus for transfers from American Express only applies to the Amex Premium Ascent Membership Rewards program. This is the program used by Amex Centurion, Amex Platinum Charge, Amex Rewards Advantage and Amex Platinum Business cardholders.

All other transfers from Amex Membership Rewards will receive 15% bonus points – the same rate that will be earned if you transfer from any of the following programs:

Amex, NAB, Westpac, St George, Bank SA, Bank of Melbourne, HSBC, IHG, Accor, Choice Privileges, Marriott Bonvoy, Shangri-La Circle, Envirobank
Velocity is offering 15% bonus points when transferring from these loyalty programs.

During May 2022, you can also get 5-10% bonus points when converting Flybuys points to Velocity Frequent Flyer. This is about as good as the offers on Flybuys transfers to Velocity get these days.

With this offer, you can earn a 10% bonus on any Flybuys points converted to Velocity points this month if you turn on Velocity Auto Transfer for the first time. If you have already used Velocity Auto Transfer in the past or choose to do a manual points transfer, you can earn a 5% bonus on the first manual transfer you make from Flybuys to Velocity by 31 May 2022.

CommBank Awards is a notable omission from the list of participating programs. No bonus is available when transferring points from CommBank Awards to Velocity this month.

CommBank Awards was one of the participating programs in November 2021, when Velocity offered 20-30% bonus points on transfers.

Offer terms & conditions

This promotion is running from 1-31 May 2022. Registration is not required – simply make a transfer to Velocity from an eligible loyalty program within the offer period.

Points credited to Velocity through an auto-redemption or auto-sweep program are not eligible to receive the bonus – only manual transfers.

The full T&Cs are available on Velocity’s website.

What can you do with Velocity points?

Velocity points can be used for reward seats and upgrades on Virgin Australia flights. You can also redeem Velocity points to fly with the following Virgin Australia partner airlines:

Velocity redemption partner airlines November 2021
Velocity Frequent Flyer partner airlines as of May 2022.

Note that United Airlines will soon replace Delta as Virgin Australia’s US-based partner airline.

Unfortunately, it’s not currently possible to redeem Velocity points for Singapore Airlines flights in Premium Economy or First Class. Transfers from Velocity to the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program also remain suspended, although Velocity has indicated this will return in the future. Once this program future is reinstated, it will make transferring points to Velocity considerably more attractive!

It’s also possible to redeem Velocity points for the following types of redemptions on the ground (although you probably shouldn’t, because they are relatively poor value):

  • Products from the Velocity Rewards Store
  • Gift cards
  • Wine
  • Hotel bookings (powered by Ascenda)
  • Europcar car hire bookings via Cartrawler

See our Overview of Velocity Frequent Flyer redemptions for more on redeeming Velocity points.

I have about 80,000 flybuys hanging around so perhaps May will be the time to reset that another to zero!

I have 340,000 Flybuys - about to become 360,000. If there's an offer for 15%+ bonus I will convert - if not, I won't.

Balances such as these should carry an adult's only tag on AFF o_O;)

I have to move by September at the latest to redeem for next years flights, so whatever the offer is I am taking it.

This will be the first Flybuys bonus since they made them 2 for 1 and comes after they purged a lot via the Millionaire bonus (bonus my cough!).

Hopefully this is the first of many to come!

Have Virgin/VA removed the annual limit on transferring points from Flybuys to Velocity?

Yes.

But I would temper my expectations. The offers will be different for each preferred partner and the Flybuys one could well be something like 500 bonus points or 1000 if you switch on automated transfer. Or share of a million points…

Indeed and sadly I think that will be the case
