KrisFlyer Sweet Spot: Premium Economy to Istanbul

KrisFlyer Sweet Spot: Premium Economy to Istanbul

On 1 December 2019, Singapore Airlines will switch its Singapore-Istanbul route from a Boeing 777-200 to an Airbus A350-900. The Airbus A350 has a Premium Economy cabin with 24 seats, meaning Singapore Airlines Premium Economy will soon be offered to Istanbul for the first time. This presents some great opportunities to travellers looking to redeem Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles to Istanbul.

Flying from Australia, New Zealand or Singapore to Istanbul (or elsewhere in the Middle East and northern Africa) is already a lucrative sweet spot on the KrisFlyer award chart. Plus, there is currently tons of award availability in Singapore Airlines Premium Economy to Istanbul. To top it off, you won’t pay any fuel surcharges when redeeming KrisFlyer miles for Singapore Airlines flights.

Within Australia and New Zealand, Singapore Airlines offers Premium Economy class out of Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Christchurch and Auckland. And Singapore Airlines Premium Economy award availability, in general, is excellent. Even on the date of the inaugural Singapore-Istanbul Airbus A350 flight, we found six Premium Economy Saver award seats available from Sydney to Istanbul.

A one-way Premium Economy award flight from Sydney to Istanbul would cost 64,000 KrisFlyer miles plus $101.69 in taxes. Return flights cost twice the number of KrisFlyer miles. If you’re booking a return flight, you would be entitled to a free stopover in Singapore in one direction. And if you’re booking a one-way award, you could add a stopover in Singapore for USD100 (but only by booking over the phone).

From Singapore to Istanbul, it’s just 37,000 KrisFlyer miles and SGD49.80 in Premium Economy.

Singapore Airlines offers a 2-4-2 Premium Economy layout on its Airbus A350. The seats are comfortable and offer significantly more legroom than regular Economy class.

If you have enough KrisFlyer miles, it’s not that many more miles above Premium Economy to book a Business Saver award from Australia to Turkey. But if you’re travelling as a large group, you might find Premium Economy award availability easier to access.
