You may be aware of the Oneworld Explorer round-the-world fares that allow you to circle the globe on Oneworld airlines. But did you know that several Oneworld airlines, including Finnair, sell mini round-the-world tickets for just a fraction of the price?
Finnair sells a round-the-world product that allows you to travel to Europe via Asia, returning via North America with up to 5 stopovers in total. Travel in the opposite direction is also possible.
Costing less than a return Qantas Business class ticket to London or New York, the Finnair round-the-world fare is great value. And it’s even better value right now, thanks to a sale on until 16 March 2018!
During the current sale you can fly around the world in Business class on Qantas and Finnair for as little as $5,170. You would fly from Australia to San Francisco with Qantas, then from San Francisco to anywhere in Europe (via Helsinki) with Finnair. Returning from Europe, you would fly Finnair to Asia and then Qantas back to Australia. Stopovers are available in San Francisco, Europe and one Asian city on the return trip. An additional stopover in Helsinki is also allowed. The same trip is possible in the reverse.
Here’s one example of a possible itinerary:
The above itinerary would earn a handy 760 Qantas status credits in Business class. That’s enough to earn Qantas Gold status and gets you more than half way to qualifying for Platinum status!
Surface sectors within Europe are permitted. So, you could fly into one European city (e.g. Munich) and then depart from another airport (e.g. Paris).
As AFF member madrooster explains, this fare is available for departures from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Hobart and Cairns. Many flight combinations are possible with the Finnair round-the-world fare. But to access this low price, you would need to fly Finnair between San Francisco and Helsinki. This is a seasonal Finnair route running 3x weekly between 15 May and 27 September.
This fare can only be booked through travel agents.
A similar fare is also available for travel in Economy class for around $1,700.
