You may be aware of the Oneworld Explorer round-the-world fares that allow you to circle the globe on Oneworld airlines. But did you know that several Oneworld airlines, including Finnair, sell mini round-the-world tickets for just a fraction of the price?

The Finnair round-the-world fare

Finnair sells a round-the-world product that allows you to travel to Europe via Asia, returning via North America with up to 5 stopovers in total. Travel in the opposite direction is also possible.

Costing less than a return Qantas Business class ticket to London or New York, the Finnair round-the-world fare is great value. And it’s even better value right now, thanks to a sale on until 8 March 2019!

During the current sale you can fly around the world in Business class on Qantas and Finnair from around $5,600. The actual price will vary depending on your routing and the stopovers used, but many Business Class itineraries are possible for under $6,000.

With the Finnair round-the-world ticket, you can stop over in Asia (e.g. Bangkok, Singapore or Hong Kong) and North America (e.g. Los Angeles, San Francisco or New York) on your way to/from Europe. Your European stopover can take place anywhere that Finnair flies – which includes most cities in Europe. An additional stopover in Helsinki, Finnair’s hub, is also allowed.

You’ll need to fly Finnair within Europe, as well as on the long-haul sectors between Europe and Asia/North America. But for the flights between Australia and Asia/North America, you can use a partner airline such as Qantas or Cathay Pacific. British Airways could also be used to fly between Sydney and Singapore, although this incurs a $100 surcharge.

Here’s one example of a possible itinerary:

The above itinerary would earn a handy 760 Qantas status credits in Business class. That’s enough to earn Qantas Gold status and gets you more than half way to qualifying for Platinum status!

Surface sectors within Europe are permitted. So, you could fly into one European city (e.g. Munich) and then depart from another airport (e.g. Paris).

This fare can only be booked through travel agents.

This sale ends on 8 March 2019. Travel can commence between 1 March and 31 May 2019, or from 1 September to 30 November 2019. There is a maximum trip length of six months.
