Earn Velocity Status Credits on the Ground in April 2022

Velocity Frequent Flyer members have multiple opportunities to earn status credits on the ground this month, with the frequent flyer program running numerous limited-time promotions simultaneously.

Velocity status credits count towards your Virgin Australia status tier. They can generally only be earned by flying with Virgin Australia and its partner airlines, or by shopping at Coles, Liqourland or First Choice Liquor Market. (Flybuys members with a linked Velocity account can earn 1 Velocity status credit for every $100 spent at these retailers, up to 10 status credits per month.)

American Express Velocity Platinum customers can also earn 100 Velocity status credits in each year that they spend at least $50,000 on their credit card.

That’s normally where the opportunities to earn status credits on the ground end. But during April 2022, there are three other ways to earn Virgin Australia Velocity status credits through limited-time promotions.

Redeem at least 4,000 Velocity points on the ground

Until 30 April 2022, you can earn 10 bonus status credits by redeeming at least 4,000 Velocity Frequent Flyer points for an eligible non-air redemption in a single transaction. Specifically, the eligible redemption types are:

  • Velocity Rewards Store purchases
  • Velocity Wine Store by Laithwaite’s orders
  • Europcar redemptions
  • Velocity Hotels (powered by Ascenda) redemptions

This promotion is advertised on the Special Offers page of the Velocity Frequent Flyer website. Note that flight and upgrade rewards are not eligible to earn bonus status credits, and the offer can only be redeemed once per member.

Velocity says that the bonus status credits will arrive up to 4 weeks after the offer period ends.

Earn six status credits with every SIXT rental booked

Also until 30 April 2022, you can earn six Velocity status credits for any SIXT car rental in Australia. To use this offer, you would need to book an eligible SIXT rental vehicle on the Virgin Australia website (powered by Cartrawler), enter your Velocity number at the time of booking and complete the rental by 30 April 2022.

When booking a SIXT car rental during April, you can also earn at least 6 Velocity points per dollar.

Reservations made directly with SIXT or any other company are not valid for this offer. Note that prices may be different when booking through Virgin Australia’s Cartrawler portal, compared to booking directly with SIXT.

Earn up to 100 bonus status credits with the Virgin Money Velocity High Flyer card

Virgin Money is also offering up to 100 bonus Velocity status credits as a sign-up bonus for new customers who apply for a Velocity High Flyer credit card by 25 April 2022.

To earn the bonus status credits, you would need to spend at least $500 on the card on Virgin Australia flights within 4 months. With this card, you could also earn up to 100,000 bonus Velocity points as a sign-up bonus.

They probably feel now is the time for us to liquidate some of our nest eggs.

What's funny is that the offer period coincides with the 2 year anniversary of everyone offloading their points at the VFF rewards store.

Offloading!
By them offering this, and for those who take it up, its moving a long term asset off us, and a liability to them, to become a thing that's worth one year, only 10 SC, add on for flights or FB, and in one year, the worth of it is used up.
I will not be taking up the offer, will wait and see how their partnership with ANA will pan out, over the next 12 months.

No thanks.
I value that 4000 VFF points more than 10 VFF SC.
SC in itself does not give access to upgrades, or to J class seats, but multiples of that 4000 VFF points can be used to get up to J.
