Singapore Airlines is currently offering 50% bonus KrisFlyer elite miles on flights from Australia to selected destinations around the world. This promotion is the equivalent of a bonus status credits offer, so it’s exciting news for Australians chasing Star Alliance status with the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program!
This offer makes it easier to reach KrisFlyer Elite Gold status, equivalent to Star Alliance Gold. As a KrisFlyer Gold member, you’ll receive benefits like lounge access, bonus miles and priority check-in & boarding whenever you fly with Singapore Airlines, Star Alliance and also Virgin Australia. You would need to earn 50,000 elite miles during 12 consecutive months to reach KrisFlyer Elite Gold.
This is the second time that Singapore Airlines has offered bonus KrisFlyer elite miles during 2019. The previous deal was in March 2019. This means that Singapore Airlines has so far run more status fast-track promotions in Australia this year than Qantas!
Promo terms & conditions
This offer applies to round-trip flights from anywhere in Australia to specific destinations on Singapore Airlines or SilkAir, its regional subsidiary. This offer applies to bookings made between 15 August and 5 September 2019, for travel until 31 August 2020.
Travel from Australia to the following destinations is included in the 50% bonus KrisFlyer elite miles promotion for August 2019: London, Paris, Frankfurt, Manila, Ho Chi Minh City, Phuket, Tokyo, Seattle, Los Angeles, Delhi, Johannesburg and Male.
Note that travel purely to/from Singapore is not included in this offer.
There is no need to register for this promotion. Simply book eligible flights with Singapore Airlines and/or SilkAir during the promotional period and enter your KrisFlyer membership number with the booking. All classes of travel that normally earn elite miles are eligible for this offer, but your trip must both commence and finish in Australia.
Note that only flights operated and marketed by Singapore Airlines or SilkAir are eligible for 50% bonus KrisFlyer elite miles, i.e. flights with an “SQ” or “MI” flight number. Codeshare flights marketed by Virgin Australia, i.e. with a “VA” flight number are ineligible. Singapore Airlines itineraries that involve domestic connections operated by Virgin Australia are still eligible, but the Virgin Australia segments won’t earn any bonus elite miles.
The Great Singapore Airlines Getaway Sale
The 50% bonus KrisFlyer elite miles promo is timed to coincide with a new sale on Singapore Airlines flights in Economy, Premium Economy and Business. Sale fares include:
- Sydney to Ho Chi Minh City for $685 return in Economy
- Perth to Seattle for $1,140 return in Economy
- Canberra to Paris for $3,088 return in Premium Economy
- Adelaide to Paris for $5,983 return in Business
Singapore Airlines Economy Lite sale fares normally earn 50% of the actual miles flown, while Premium Economy promo fares earn 100% miles and Business Lite fares earn 125% miles. So on a return trip from Canberra to Paris in Premium Economy, for example, you would normally earn 21,044 elite miles. With this promo, that would increase to 31,566 elite miles.
You could even earn KrisFlyer Elite Gold status with a single trip to Europe by flying Business Class in one direction and First Class in the other direction. For example, you could fly First (A) Class from Melbourne to Paris and return to Melbourne on a Business Lite (D) fare for $10,167.13, and earn 50,748 elite miles by booking during this promotion.
As part of this sale, you can even add a Singapore stopover holiday package from just $1 if you travel by March 2020.
50% Bonus Velocity Points on Singapore Airlines flights
Separately, some Velocity Frequent Flyer members have also received targeted offers of 50% bonus Velocity points on Singapore Airlines bookings from Australia to Europe, Asia or South Africa. You would need to register to use this offer, and it applies to bookings made through Singapore Airlines (not Virgin Australia codeshare flights).
This offer’s terms and conditions state that it cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. So if you wish to earn bonus KrisFlyer elite miles, it’s best not to register for this offer. But if Velocity points (redeemable for reward flights) are more important to you than KrisFlyer elite miles (which count towards status), keep an eye out for an email from Velocity!
