The Australian Frequent Flyer Community is not just about flying, it’s also about sharing ideas and experiences. One of the best experiences our members often report is as a result of meeting other like minded souls. In fact, one of our popular, helpful, and very social member – samh004 – has volunteered to take on the role of AFF Social Ambassador, co-ordinating some of the events.
Both formal and informal “do” are planned and occur through Australian Frequent Flyer. Here is a little guide to what’s on offer.
Lounge Meetups – Soliciting for lounge passes or any commercial trading as such is not allowed on AFF, but often our members have guest spots for lounge entry available. Each month, members who are happy to guest into an airline lounge will list their plans and timings in our monthly lounge threads.
Airline lounges are not the only place you will find our members happy to chat, Hotel Lounges are increasingly becoming a venue for informal meetings and catch-ups, one of the more popular chains being the Hilton chain. Unlike airlines, the hotel chains offer limited guest access, so the HILTON THREAD is more about fellow members with executive lounge access catching up in most cases.
Apart from lounges, our members also like to get together for a drink and a meal at various cities across Australia. These events typically run for a few hours, everybody pays for their own drinks and food and much discussion is had about all things frequent flying. Be warned though, they can be addictive and time goes quick when your having fun. In February there are events scheduled for Melbourne and Brisbane, just check out the meetings threads for more details and drop a line in the thread if you are keen to come.
Finally the last event on offer is our annual get together, The AFF Gathering. Each year members vote for a city and then a date, after which a team of volunteers plan a weekend of much social activity including some local tours, meals, drinks and even unique experiences. Last year AFF was held in Hobart, with some lucky members taking away some prizes including valuable Qantas Frequent Flyer points thanks to generous sponsors. This year AFF8 is to be held in Mebourne, offering plenty of sights and sounds as well as good hotel accommodation to chose from.
