World of Hyatt has confirmed that it will extend the tier status of Discoverist, Explorist and Globalist members that live in Australia or New Zealand until 2022.

The loyalty program of Hyatt hotels announced that it is extending the elite status and benefits of members that reside in the Asia Pacific region, due to the ongoing coronavirus situation. A Hyatt spokesperson confirmed to Australian Frequent Flyer that this includes Australian and New Zealand residents.

Hyatt says that it is also evaluating the possibility of “tier and benefit extensions for global members who travel frequently to the Asia Pacific region”.

This is a very generous offer from Hyatt, and great news for members that live in Australia or New Zealand. It could be the first of many more status extensions to be offered by loyalty programs as the coronavirus health crisis continues.

Hilton Honors, IHG Rewards Club and Marriott Bonvoy have also recently announced elite status extensions. But these only apply to residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.

How the World of Hyatt status extensions will work

Qualifying World of Hyatt members whose Discoverist, Explorist or Globalist status was due to expire on 28 February 2021, will have their status extended until 28 February 2022.

In addition, Suite Upgrade Awards, Club Access Awards and Free Night Awards belonging to members in the Asia Pacific region, that are currently due to expire in 2020, will be extended until 31 December 2021.

World of Hyatt will make these changes automatically and inform eligible Australian and New Zealand members by email or Hyatt Concierge. The changes should be implemented by the end of March 2020. If you have a question about your Hyatt status, you can contact the Hyatt Global Contact Centre or email [email protected].
