Velocity Frequent Flyer is offering a free status match to new Virgin Australia Business Flyer members who currently hold the equivalent of Silver or higher status with a competing frequent flyer program.

This promotion is one of a range of benefits available to businesses that join Virgin Australia Business Flyer between 16 January and 31 March 2023.

Launched in April 2022, Virgin Australia Business Flyer is that airline’s answer to Qantas Business Rewards. It offers Velocity points, discounts and additional benefits to small and medium businesses when their employees fly.

How the status match works

To be eligible for this Velocity status match, you would need to be an employee or contractor of a business that joins Virgin Australia Business Flyer between 16 January and 31 March 2023. You would also need to have existing status with another airline such as Qantas.

Status with other airlines also qualifies, but Virgin won’t give a status match to frequent flyers of its own partner airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, United or Etihad.

After joining Virgin Australia Business Flyer for free, you can apply for your status match by sending an email to [email protected] from the email address linked to your Business Flyer account by 31 March 2023. In your email, include:

  • The name of the person requesting a status match
  • Their Velocity membership number
  • The business name and ABN
  • A photo of the applicant’s membership card with the other airline which clearly shows their name, status and expiry date

It may take up to 4 weeks to process your application. Once approved, you or your employee will receive Velocity Silver, Gold or Platinum status for 12 months.

See the Virgin Australia website for full instructions and T&Cs.

This status match promotion is separate to Virgin Australia Business Flyer’s ongoing offer of two Pilot Gold memberships for businesses that spend at least $2,000 within 3 months of joining.

To join Virgin Australia Business Flyer, your business would need an active ABN or ACN, an Australian business address and to spend less than $300,000 per year on Virgin Australia flights. Superannuation funds, travel agencies or any other business that resells travel is not eligible to join.

Other benefits for new Virgin Australia Business Flyer members

As a special promotion, businesses that sign up for Virgin Australia Business Flyer by 31 March 2023 can also receive:

  • 2,500 bonus Velocity points
  • Double Velocity points on their first flight
  • Plus, if spending $5,000 or more on eligible flights within 90 days of joining, 50,000 Velocity points.

Recent program improvements

Like Qantas Business Rewards, the Virgin Australia Business Flyer program has three membership tiers based on the business’ annual spend with the airline.

Virgin recently added several new benefits including lounge passes, bonus Velocity points and complimentary Business Class upgrades for members that reach the higher tiers.

“There is no other Australian airline that offers a free rewards program for businesses, lounges in every capital city, three types of domestic seating choices including Business Class, jet services to hundreds of destinations around the country, and all the bells and whistles at such an excellent value-for-money price point.”

Jayney is off her tree saying this total arrant nonsense. If she is not careful the ACCC will slap a $100,000 fine on them for false and misleading public statements.

"Hundreds' indeed. She thinks she is still in the USA and getting Delta or UA confused with VA. .

Yeah it is inaccurate in so many ways but the ACCC has used the "puffery" out-clause for so many companies that it is a bit of a laughing stock of a regulator.

Certainly some 'Beyond' truth, or beyond factual statements there. If it had been fact checked the statement would have been:

“There is no other Australian airline that offers a free rewards program for businesses, lounges in some capital cities, three types of domestic seating choices including Business Class, jet services to dozens of destinations around the country, and all the bells and whistles at such an excellent value-for-money price point.”

But that does not sound quite so compelling does it?

Currently no business seats on planes Perth to Darwin and Perth to Adelaide. Planes don't have them. NO Virgin Lounge in Darwin either.
When will this change. I don't want to cram in economy especially not with the covid plague in crowds. Who knows who I will be sitting shoulder to shoulder with.

I didn't know Business Class comes COVID free.

Maybe not
but you are not sitting so close to the passenger/stranger in the next seat. The renewed aircon comes from the front and you only share the toilet with max 8 people and the crew, providing the flight attendants keep the economy passengers from removing the cable across the aisle and sneaking in to use the loo.

I received a gratis $50 voucher into my VA BF travel bank (seperate to my personal travel bank) but I don’t seem to be able to access it. My dashboard shows a $50 balance but my BF login details don’t work on the ”corporate” travel bank. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong?

If I just use my VFF details, it just shows I have $0 balance there (as expected).
