Virgin Australia has given an extra two months of Gold status to Velocity Frequent Flyer members who registered for the “Discover Gold” status match in December 2020, extending the total trial period from three to five months.
Velocity members participating in this offer will now receive Velocity Gold benefits until May 2021. Members will also have an extra two months to earn the required 80 Velocity status credits, and take at least one eligible Virgin Australia flight, in order to receive another year of Velocity Gold status and the ability to gift Gold status to somebody else.
The two-month extension is an acknowledgement that some people have been unable to travel over recent months due to continuing state border restrictions and other covid-related issues.
“With the travel situation continuing to change, we realise that 3 months may not be enough time for you to reach your travel goals and enjoy your Discover Gold membership,” Velocity posted on its website.
“So that you can enjoy Virgin Australia’s award-winning service we’ve added an extra 2 months to your Discover Gold membership.”
If you’re participating in the Discover Gold offer, your Velocity status review date will have already been extended automatically by two months.
Status Rewards extension
In addition to the Discover Gold status match, Velocity Frequent Flyer announced various rewards for existing Gold & Platinum members last December. This included a complimentary Velocity status extension until March 2022 for Gold & Platinum members who take at least one eligible Virgin Australia flight between 7 December 2020 and 28 March 2021.
To take advantage of the complimentary status extension, you’ll now just need to book a Virgin Australia flight that earns status credits by 28 March 2021. Previously, the requirement was to fly by 28 March.
But the other rewards, including 5,000 bonus Velocity points after taking two flights, are now available until 30 May 2021. Gold members that take at least 3 flights during the promo period can also continue to receive complimentary Economy X seating until 30 May, and Platinum members who take at least 3 flights will now be able to use their complimentary Business upgrades on any fare type until the same date.
