Our member albatross710 recently had the chance to visit Sri Lanka. While researching the destination, this member found a trip report written by another AFF member that had recently visited. Inspired to see the island nation for themself, our member contacted the author of the original trip report and managed to get in touch with their tour guide. The guide turned out to be a great find, making for a fantastic week of touring Sri Lanka!

A few months ago at the time of needing to do a trip to Dubai (BNE_DXB_BNE) I came across a low cost fare to route us BNE-SIN-CMB-DXB-BAH-CMB-SIN-BNE. The latter via UL sounded much more interesting so I did some research and came across an inspiring Trip Report by RB. I reached out to RB for details of his Sri Lankan tour guide. Within a few short days Mrs Albatross710 & I were booked and had a 7 day stopover with SL itinerary in place with RB’s original tour guide Mr Lucky.

The week of sightseeing began immediately after arriving in Sri Lanka with a visit to an elephant orphanage. These may have been the first animals seen on tour, but certainly weren’t the last! Sri Lanka is a nature lover’s paradise. A wide variety of colourful and unique animals, especially birds, can be seen almost anywhere.

The wildlife is an important part of Sri Lanka’s attractions. It is quite well integrated into most parts of the day and possibly easier to capture good photograph than it is in Australia.

Our member’s itinerary included visits to botanical gardens, temples, a tea plantation and even a safari in Yala National Park. The Park is the most popular in the country. Having previously been home to numerous ancient civilisations, it’s now home to a wide variety of unique animal life including leopards, sloth bears, wild buffalo and even crocodiles.

It seems our member thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and was more than satisfied with the recommend tour guide.

We were totally happy with Lucky and the way he operates as an independent tour guide… We left wanting to see and explore more. Which is a nice feeling.

Sri Lanka is not a destination high up on the list of many Australian travellers, but perhaps it should be. It seems to be an intriguing destination with beautiful beaches, friendly people, great food and much more!
