SkyTeam Status Match with ITA Airways Volare

The ITA Airways Volare program status match has returned until 15 April 2022, offering a fast-track to elite status with a SkyTeam member airline.

ITA Airways is the reincarnation of Italian airline Alitalia. It has been operating since October 2021, and joined SkyTeam at the end of that month.

From 15 March until 15 April 2022, eligible frequent flyers who currently hold status with one of 24 other airlines (including quite a few other SkyTeam airlines, bizarrely) can request an ITA Airways status match. If approved, the status will be valid until 15 April 2023.

Anyone who has existing elite status with any of the following frequent flyer programs can apply for an ITA Airways status match:

  • Air Europa Suma
  • Alitalia MilleMiglia
  • Air France/KLM Flying Blue
  • American Airlines AAdvantage
  • ANA Mileage Club
  • British Airways Executive Club
  • Czech Airlines OK Plus
  • Delta Airlines SkyMiles
  • El Al Matmid Club
  • Emirates Skywards
  • Iberia Plus
  • Korean Air SKYPASS
  • Lufthansa Miles&More
  • Middle East Airlines Cedar Miles
  • Qatar Airways Privilege Club
  • Royal Jordanian Royal Club
  • Saudia Alfursan
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • SWISS Miles&More
  • TAP Miles&Go
  • TAROM Airlines
  • Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles
  • United Airlines MileagePlus

To apply for an ITA Airways Volare status match, create an account with the loyalty program (if you haven’t already) and complete the status match request form. You can find this form by logging into your Volare account on the ITA Airways website.

With your application, you will need to include:

  • A copy of your current physical or digital frequent flyer card
  • A copy of your passport photo page or identity card (in pdf or jpg format)

ITA Airways previously ran a similar status match promotion at the end of 2021. During that promotion, members who met the status match criteria were generally notified within around 24 hours.

Benefits of ITA Airways Volare status

When flying with ITA Airways, the main benefits of Premium status (equivalent to SkyTeam Elite Plus, or Qantas Gold) seem to be 20% bonus points on flights and lounge access, where available.

Theoretically, as an ITA Airways Premium or Executive member, you would also enjoy SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits on 18 other SkyTeam airlines including Air France, KLM, Delta, Garuda, Vietnam Airlines or Korean Air. However, there have been some reports that other SkyTeam airlines are not recognising ITA Airways membership at the moment or haven’t heard of the airline. So, your mileage may vary. Hopefully these issues are only temporary.
