Asiana Club is one of the most undervalued Star Alliance frequent flyer programs. The program makes it extremely easy to earn Star Alliance status, and Asiana Club miles are also a valuable currency. This guide explains how to redeem Asiana Club miles.

You can redeem Asiana miles to fly on any Star Alliance airline. Redemptions on Etihad Airways are also possible. Unfortunately, the process is a little complicated as most award bookings cannot be made online.

Asiana Club has separate region-based award charts for redemptions on Asiana, and for Star Alliance partner redemptions. One-way awards are possible but there are no free stopovers on award bookings. For award flights on Asiana, you’ll pay more for lie-flat Business class (marketed as “Smartium”). There is also a 50% surcharge for Asiana flights during designated peak periods.

You can book Asiana award flights up to 354 days in advance.

Award sweet spots

Most Asiana Club awards are reasonably-priced, but here are some redemptions of particular interest for Australians. All prices are one-way.

  • Asiana from Sydney to Seoul costs 62,500 miles in Business Smartium or 80,000 miles in First Class
  • Asiana First Class to Europe or North America costs 115,000 miles
  • Australia to Europe in Business Class with Star Alliance airlines costs 82,500 miles
  • Trans-Atlantic Business Class (from Europe to North America, including Hawaii) costs 40,000 miles in Business or 50,000 miles in First Class with Star Alliance partners

For reference, here are the Star Alliance award prices to/from the “South Pacific” zone. This region includes Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. For one-way awards, simply halve the number of miles.

Star Alliance Around-the-World Awards

Asiana also offers a round-the-world award. With this award you can fly with Star Alliance airlines around the world with up to 7 stopovers. A maximum of two stopovers are allowed in the same region.

This is very similar to the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer round-the-world award, except that it’s cheaper! With Asiana Club you’ll pay 140,000 miles in Economy or 230,000 miles for Business Class.

Redeeming Asiana Club miles for family members

You are allowed to book award travel for up to 5 nominated family members. But you would first need to link these family members to your Asiana Club account via Family Mileage Plan. Proof of your family relationship (e.g. marriage or birth certificates) is required and can be submitted to Asiana Club online.

How to book Asiana Club award flights

Award flights on Asiana Airlines can be booked on the Asiana website. The website is easy to use and you can easily view award availability across a whole month at a time.

To redeem Asiana miles for award travel on any partner airline, you will need to call Asiana. If you’re in Australia, call the Asiana Sydney office on 02 9260 4300 during normal business hours. Before calling, we recommend that you search for Star Alliance award availability using the United or Aeroplan website.
