Got more Qantas Frequent Flyer points than you know what to do with?

From Monday, Qantas will put five “money can’t buy” experiences and products up for auction. But unlike at regular auctions, bids at the Qantas Points Auctions can only be made using Qantas points.

A Qantas Points Auction will be held each day from Monday, 2 August until Friday, 6 August 2021. Bidding will open each day at 8am, and close at 9pm AEST. The Qantas Frequent Flyer member who places the highest bid by the 9pm closing time will be the winner!

The five prizes up for grabs are:

  • Monday: 1-hour Qantas 787 flight simulator experience in Melbourne or Brisbane (bids start from 50,000 points)
  • Tuesday: Eichardt’s Queestown getaway including 3 nights of luxury accommodation and return Business Class flights from Australia for up to 4 people (bids start from 300,000 points)
  • Wednesday: 1-hour training session for up to 20 children aged 6-12 in NSW with the Socceroos coach (bids start from 100,000 points)
  • Thursday: Second-hand pair of A380 SkyBed seats (bids start from 350,000 points)
  • Friday: Private day return-trip from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane for up to 31 people on a QantasLink Dash 8 (bids start from 1,200,000 points)

The pair of SkyBed seats have been taken off a Qantas Airbus A380 which has since been refurbished with new Business Class seats. The product includes delivery to selected parts of Australia and a converter so the SkyBeds can be plugged into a regular power outlet and be reclined. In total, the SkyBed seats and timber rig weighs 235kg.

These would be a great addition to any lounge room large enough to fit the seats! But as many frequent flyers would know, as these are pre-loved seats, expect a “droop” when the seats are reclined to become lie-flat beds. And, unfortunately, the in-armrest TV screens don’t work outside the aircraft.

The final prize, the private trip on a Dash 8, is available for the auction winner and up to 30 family and friends. While it would be great if Qantas let the winner choose the destination, there are three day-trips to choose from: from Sydney to Ballina, Brisbane to Hamilton Island or Melbourne to Devonport.

The flight will be in a Q400 from Sydney or Brisbane, or a Q300 if departing from Melbourne, and includes hospitality, lounge access on departure and pyjamas & amenity kits for all passengers.
