Qantas Enhances Loyalty Bonus

qf-loyalty-bonusQantas Frequent Flyer members can now opt to earn 50 bonus status credits with each loyalty bonus.

The Qantas loyalty bonus is awarded each time a member earns 500 status credits from flights on Qantas or Jetstar, up to four times per membership year. Currently 8,000 points are awarded as part of the loyalty bonus. Members can now opt-in to earn the 50 status credits instead of the points.

As status credits count towards attaining a higher status tier, the changes will make it easier for members to earn and retain Qantas status. However, the new loyalty bonus will not count towards attaining Platinum One status, Qantas’ highest status tier.

Our members are very happy with the change, which effectively equals a 10% status credit bonus.

So a renewing platinum will only need 1100 SC+ 100 loyalty bonus. SC = 1200

Will be useful for me…brings forward WP qualification to before my flight to NZ instead of after. Looking forward to the FLounge.

A small number of members have expressed concerns that this could lead to overcrowding in lounges as more flyers earn status with Qantas. But overall our members believe this is a positive announcement.

A positive enhancement in my opinion. I do not see that this will lead to increased numbers of WP in the ranks. We must all remember the drop off in WP etc from FIFO members. Qantas needs bums on seats this could be a good way to achieve that at minimal cost.

Qantas’ loyalty bonus was previously earned for reaching 500 status credits, regardless of how they were earned. In recent years the loyalty bonus was changed so that only flights on Qantas or Jetstar counted towards it. This requirement to fly on Qantas or Jetstar also appears now to have extended to the bonus awarded on reaching 2,400 status credits in a membership year. This particular bonus comes with a choice of complimentary Partner Gold membership, 50,000 bonus points or valet parking vouchers.

Also note that Partner Gold now requires 2400 SC earn on QF/JQ.
