Qantas Business Class for $283 return!

How does a return Qantas Business class trip for just $283 sound?!

Thanks to a current promotion, it’s possible to pick up 18,000 British Airways Executive Club Avios (points) for just $239. That’s enough points for a return Qantas Business class flight from Sydney to Melbourne, or two return trips in Economy.

The 18,000 Avios are being offered as a sign-up bonus if you take out an annual digital subscription to the Irish Independent newspaper. The cost of the subscription is €160 (~$239). After taking out the subscription, you’ll be sent a voucher code by email within 28 days. This voucher can then be redeemed for 18,000 British Airways Avios.

Once the Avios are in your British Airways Executive Club account, you’re free to use them however you like! Avios can be redeemed for travel on Qantas and short-haul domestic flights are especially good value. Flights of up to 650 miles in length cost just 4,500 Avios in Economy or 9,000 Avios for Business class. Routes in this category include Sydney-Melbourne, Brisbane-Sydney and Adelaide-Canberra.

For example, a return Qantas Business class flight from Sydney to Melbourne would cost exactly 18,000 Avios, plus around $44 in taxes. That’s a total cost of just $283. (The normal ticket price is $1,656.) By choosing A330 flights, you could even experience Qantas’ lie-flat Business Suites.

To take advantage of this promotion, you will need to be a member of the British Airways Executive Club program. Joining is free, but British Airways does not technically allow Australian or New Zealand residents to sign up. An easy workaround is to list the address of an overseas friend or relative.

A number of members have already taken out subscriptions and received their Avios vouchers. The promotion runs until 30 November 2017.

Missed this promotion? It’s also possible to buy Avios directly from British Airways.
