Malaysia Airlines passengers flying from Australia or New Zealand to destinations across Asia, the Middle East and Europe are eligible to book a free “bonus side trip” to one of seven destinations in Malaysia.

This promotional offer is available to Malaysia Airlines passengers travelling to a final destination outside of Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur, when booking by 31 March 2023 and flying by 30 June 2023. These dates were extended in December 2022 by 3 months.

Eligible passengers can stop over in Kuala Lumpur and add on a round-trip domestic flight from Kuala Lumpur to elsewhere in Malaysia for just the cost of any additional taxes and airport charges.

The bonus side trip with a stopover in another Malaysian city is available on either the outbound or return leg of a round-trip journey (not both) and can be used to travel to any of the following cities:

  • Penang
  • Langkawi
  • Johor Bahru
  • Kuala Terengganu
  • Kota Bharu
  • Alor Setar
  • Kuantan

If you wanted to use this deal to visit both Malaysia and Singapore, you could even fly to Johor Bahru and then simply cross over into Singapore across the causeway.

To use this offer, your final destination with Malaysia Airlines would need to be in one of the following destinations:

  • Sri Lanka
  • Nepal
  • Bangladesh
  • India
  • Qatar
  • Indonesia
  • Thailand
  • Singapore
  • Philippines
  • Vietnam
  • Myanmar
  • Cambodia
  • Hong Kong
  • China
  • Taiwan
  • Japan
  • South Korea
  • United Kingdom

Tickets are available to book through travel agents or directly on the Malaysia Airlines website, which has some helpful booking instructions.

This offer is available on year-round Basic and Flex fares, but not on discounted sale tickets.

Depending on the fare class purchased, you may be able to earn Qantas points and status credits on Malaysia Airlines flights as the airline is part of the Oneworld alliance.

Malaysia has reopened to tourists and dropped all remaining COVID-19 testing and vaccination requirements. The country has also removed the requirement for international arrivals to complete the Traveller’s Card in the MySejahtera app.

I have used a similar offer by MH before. Bought return flights to KUL and did a free side trip to SIN.

Shame that the offer this time is for only free flights within Malaysia.

Is there any way to take up this offer if u have booked through points? I don’t think there is from looking at the detail but I thought there might be some sort of work around
