Singapore Airlines is offering 25% off the KrisFlyer miles needed for Economy and Premium Economy awards across the Singapore Airlines network, for travel next year.

In lieu of its regular monthly KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes promotion, Singapore Airlines is currently running a “Global Redemption Sale” for bookings made until 22 October 2023. The 25% discount is valid for all Economy Saver and selected Premium Economy Saver award tickets for travel on Singapore Airlines between 1 January 2024 and 31 July 2024.

The Premium Economy Saver discount is available on Singapore Airlines’ non-stop routes from Singapore to San Francisco, New York (JFK) and Newark (EWR).

Unfortunately, this discount does not apply to Business or First Class redemption bookings, nor to Advantage or partner airline bookings.

Note that these promotional tickets cannot be changed or cancelled.

According to the notice on the Singapore Airlines website, this is just one of several other “exciting deals and promotions” coming as KrisFlyer prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary in February 2024.

Some examples of KrisFlyer Global Redemption Sale discounts

You can book these discounted KrisFlyer awards on the Singapore Airlines website or mobile App until 22 October 2023. The discounted awards are marked as “Promo”.

With this promotion, you could book a round-trip Singapore Airlines Economy award ticket from Sydney to London for 87,750 KrisFlyer miles + $451.82 in taxes. (Around $176 of the tax amount is just for the UK Air Passenger Duty, which would not be charged if you departed Europe from outside of the UK.)

A one-way Economy Saver award from Perth to Singapore would cost just 16,125 KrisFlyer miles + $83.61 with the promotional discount.

Got Virgin Velocity points?

If you have Virgin Australia Velocity points, you can of course redeem those to book Singapore Airlines flights. But, if you want to fly with Singapore Airlines, you could also transfer points from Velocity into KrisFlyer and then redeem your KrisFlyer miles to book Singapore Airlines flights.

Points transfer from Velocity to KrisFlyer at a 1.55:1 rate. So, it’s normally better value just to book Singapore Airlines flights directly through Velocity. But with the 25% discount on KrisFlyer redemptions, the equation changes.

For example, booking through Velocity Frequent Flyer, it would normally cost 150,000 Velocity points + $706.22 for a return Singapore Airlines Economy flight from Sydney to London. (The taxes and charges are higher when booking through Velocity than with KrisFlyer due to Velocity’s Singapore Airlines carrier charge.)

But during the current KrisFlyer Global Redemption sale, as noted above, you could book the same Economy award flights for 87,750 Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles + $451.82.

87,750 KrisFlyer miles is equivalent to 136,013 Velocity points at the 1.55:1 conversion rate. So, you’d spend fewer Velocity points and pay less in taxes and charges by booking through KrisFlyer!
