Jetstar Asia Will Fly from Broome to Singapore

Jetstar Asia will launch non-stop flights from Broome to Singapore later this year, with a seasonal twice-weekly service.

From 25 June until 26 October 2024, the Singaporean arm of Jetstar will fly Broome-Singapore on Tuesdays and Saturdays. In 2025, Jetstar Asia intends to run the service from April until October. These months coincide with the peak tourism season in Australia’s north (when the weather is a bit cooler and drier).

The service appears to be mainly aimed at Singaporean tourists who might be interested in visiting Broome. The city is an attractive holiday destination in itself, as well as being a gateway to the spectacular Kimberley region in the north of Western Australia.

Of course, the flights will also be great for Broome locals who now have the option of a direct flight to Singapore – and likely at airfares significantly lower than to Perth or Darwin!

Jetstar Asia’s Broome-Singapore schedule

Currently, the shortest journey between Broome and Singapore takes around 10 hours (via Perth) and costs well over $1,000 return. But Jetstar Asia’s Broome-Singapore flights will take just four-and-a-half hours. The airline is offering launch fares from $145 one-way, or $135 one-way for Club Jetstar members.

The schedule from Broome to Singapore will be:

  • 3K166 Broome 12:55 – Singapore 17:30 (Tuesdays)
  • 3K168 Broome 20:25 – Singapore 01:00 + 1 day (Saturdays)

And in the other direction:

  • 3K165 Singapore 07:20 – Broome 11:55 (Tuesdays)
  • 3K167 Singapore 14:55 – Broome 19:25 (Saturdays)

Unfortunately, these flights don’t connect well with Qantas flights QF1/2 between Singapore and London.

Jetstar Asia uses Airbus A320s with Economy Class seating only.

Booking a seat with points

At the time of writing, Jetstar hasn’t yet released any Classic Reward seats on the route. But when this happens, you could expect to pay 14,400 Qantas Points + taxes & carrier charges for a one-way Economy seat between Broome and Singapore. When redeeming Qantas Points for Jetstar flights, 20kg of checked baggage is included.

Broome International Airport’s only international route

Neither Jetstar nor any other low-cost airline currently flies to Broome, although there is at least now some competition on regional routes out of Broome from newcomer Nexus Airlines.

The Broome-Singapore route will also be Broome’s only international service. Silk Air (now part of Singapore Airlines) previously trialled a few charter services between Singapore and Broome in 2018 and 2019, but that service never became a permanent fixture.

Jetstar Asia is operating this route with the support of the WA government and Broome International Airport.

Not looking for SIN connections by the looks of those times.

Also the first time Jetstar has flown into BME!

Yeah, probably more focused on inbound tourism. If it became more permanent, imagine QF would throw a codeshare on it and try to time it to connect to QF1/2...

Very strange choice.

Hoping Bonza will give Melbourne to Broome a crack at some point.

Very strange choice.

Why? It’s 3K, so brings inbound tourism from SE Asia (not just SIN).

Although, not being serviced by JQ domestically does seem strange ie international demand but not domestic? Maybe QF group doesn’t want to take pax from the mainline domestic services that traditionally have charged a huge premium in fares.

QF group wont let JQ near BME i suspect, but SIN is allowed as no interest in serving it themselves, indeed 3K are probably better positioned for inbound tourism with a reasonable market presence in SIN. I also wonder if this is first move to keep SQ group from any move back to BME. (Silk air flew this route prior to covid)

3K have flown into DRW and PER previously.

Jetstar would be a logical choice say a few times per week into Broome from a domestic port. We need Bonza to do that heavy lifting for us as QF rips everyone $1k return for the privilege so no reason they would send the lower margin low cost airline in.

Broome is on our to do list one day, but it won’t ever be with cash airfares, only points due to the sheer cost of any airfares. Hopeful that Bonza will jump on Broome eventually once they get a bit bigger.

They still do - well DRW at least for the moment although, that’s probably a tad more two way Asia <-> Oz traffic. So not strange that 3K are picking leisure routes from Asia. I wouldn’t be surprised if CNS made an appearance someday?

3K dropped SIN-DRW quite a while ago, maybe before covid, but i guess QF will pick that up later this year.

JQ fly DRW-DPS.
