Iceland, Morocco, Oman, Botswana… In One Trip!

Our member henleybeach recently enjoyed quite the whirlwind trip to some incredible destinations all over the world. Over just a few weeks, this member visited nine countries including Iceland, Morocco, Oman, South Africa and Botswana. In the process this member also flew on seven different airlines. These included well-known airlines like Etihad and Singapore Airlines, as well as some more obscure carriers such as Icelandair and Royal Air Maroc.

I’ve decided I would do a trip report of my upcoming holiday with the better half. Since I’ve joined this site I have learned valuable tricks and tips. So I thought I would share my holiday.

For the flights I have a mixture of J and Y fares and some new airlines I’ll be trying, I think I’m more excited about the flights!

After a superb flight to the Middle East in Etihad’s Business class, the first stop was Muscat, Oman. There was enough time to fit in some sightseeing between relaxing on the beach and shopping.

We did the city tour this morning which was good, private tour with a driver and guide. Went to the sultan qaboos mosque which was amazing inside. Checked out old Muscat and the fish market.

The next stop was a completely different (and much colder) part of the world: Iceland! Our member spent some time in the capital city, Reykjavik, before setting out on a Golden Circle tour. One of the most popular spots in Reykjavik is the Blue Lagoon, and it did not disappoint…

The next day it was blue lagoon, we loved it, it was such a cool place and it wasn’t packed. Freezing cold outside and 40 degrees under the water. Ticked it off the bucket list.

The Northern Lights were also visible soon after arriving in Iceland, although the cloud cover somewhat spoiled the view on this occasion.

Morocco was the next destination. While our member was not impressed with Casablanca, Marrakech was a highlight. Built around the historic Jemaa el-Fna square, this bustling city offers tourists everything from historic sights to delicious cuisine. Marrakech is also the gateway to the picturesque Atlas Mountains, and is where our member departed on a four-day tour to Fez.

It seems Morocco was an unexpected highlight of the trip!

Overall we loved Morocco, we have seen snow, desert, sand dunes, mountains, valleys, gorges, the trees blossoming and we have had beautiful sunny weather. It’s cheap, and staying in riads rather then hotels is defiantly the way, they are nice, boutique B&Bs with beautiful breakfasts.

The adventures continued as our member travelled onwards to South Africa and Botswana. It certainly looks like our member had an amazing trip, and you can read all about it HERE.
