Etihad Airways is giving away 100 all-expenses-paid trips to Abu Dhabi for Australian members of its Etihad Guest frequent flyer program.

A special “members flight” from Sydney to Abu Dhabi will depart on 2 April 2022, taking 100 lucky competition winners and their “plus ones” on a four-night trip to the United Arab Emirates capital.

The “Big Australia Celebration” prize includes return Economy Class flights, accommodation and experiences in Abu Dhabi for four nights. Prizewinners can choose when they would like to fly back to Sydney, meaning you could go straight home on 7 April, stay in Abu Dhabi a little longer, or even add on a side-trip to somewhere else.

To enter this competition, you’ll need to provide your contact details and Etihad Guest membership number. You’ll also need to answer questions about why you would like to join the trip to Abu Dhabi and what you have missed most about travelling. This is a game of skill, meaning the winners will be chosen by a panel of judges based on their answers to these questions.

Entries for Etihad’s Big Australia Celebration competition close at 11.59pm (AEST) on Tuesday, 8 March 2022. The terms & conditions state that Etihad will contact the winners by phone between 8-14 March 2022. (Bizarrely, this period starts a day before the entries for the competition close – we’d assume that’s a typo.)

The competition is open to Australian residents aged 18 and over, and it is free to enter. You can enter on the Etihad Airways website.

As of 26 February 2022, fully vaccinated travellers no longer need to get a COVID-19 test before flying to Abu Dhabi. Passengers travelling to Abu Dhabi will be given a free PCR test on arrival, while passengers transiting through Abu Dhabi with a connection time of up to 12 hours no longer need a test at all (unless it’s required by the final destination).

Get 1,000 free Etihad Guest miles for entering

Even if you don’t win the prize, everyone who enters the Big Australia Celebration competition will receive 1,000 Etihad Guest miles for free.

Etihad Guest miles expire after 18 months of account inactivity, so this could be an easy way to keep your balance alive if you already have miles with Etihad.

Etihad Guest miles can be redeemed for flights and upgrades on Etihad Airways, as well as award flights with over 20 of Etihad’s partner airlines including Virgin Australia. Economy reward flights on Virgin Australia start from 6,900 Etihad Guest miles in Economy or 13,800 miles in Business.

wow nice gesture - but I presume it's in economy - so I won't enter - don't want to take a winning spot I would not be willing to use.

Yep, likewise. Just way too many hours in cramped Y for my body.

I also can't go during those dates, but entered for the 1,000 Etihad Guest miles. That'll keep my balance from expiring for another 18 months.

FWIW, there is a box at the bottom of the entry page that says "Yes, I’m available to travel on April 2nd 2022". I did not tick this, and it still let me submit the form.

Just occurred to me that it coincides with the start of Ramadan in the Middle East...

Any winners from AFF?

Well me, for starters. :D

April 2 is our Wedding Anniversary so thought I'd take a chance. Have never won a thing in my life really.

No idea what aircraft they have scheduled.

Seems to be a SYD-AUH direct - looks like they are now selling the direct flights from April 3.

14 hours 40 minutes, in the 2 class 787-900 it seems most likely - which has 271 coach seats - bad reviews (below) for the tiny seats, which are quite appalling comments really, for any 14.5 hours flights - and wearing a mask all the way I assume still?

Rules seem clear they cannot even be gifted to others, which is a bit sad.

So have won $4,500 in air tickets, and 4 nights decent Hotel and breakfasts, and 4 days of tours, and honestly am not at all certain I will go.

We have made many paid Biz trips on Etihad to Europe, which have been great - nice seats and planes and lounges and staff. There does not seem to be any option to use money or points to upgrade this prize sadly?

There are 28 Biz seats so not sure who gets those, as the April 2 flights is not for sale on the website, being the debut re-start one.

Maybe if anyone can privately share an email address of someone in there, I can always ask nicely to see if anything might be done - one never knows with these things. :D

Have flown near 5 million actual real miles over my life, 2 million with UA alone, near all up front due to status and upgrades mostly, and it gets pretty addictive as we all know!

A lovely country and we visited that amazing Mosque on a previous visit -

Congratulations! Would love to read the winning submissions. How did you find out? Email or call from the (Australia) Etihad office?

Hi .. thanks for your nice wishes - got this email yesterday at 8.30pm .... so presumably from Abu Dhabi ... can't imagine ozzie staffers working then? Unsigned by anyone, and not addressed to winners personally. The T+C link were the same as the Competition one above.

So no other winners from here? :)

Dear Etihad Guest Member,

Congratulations, we’re so excited that you will be joining us on our Big Celebration flight to Abu Dhabi!

You’re the lucky recipient of two (02) return air tickets in Economy Class on Etihad Airways and a four-night stay in Abu Dhabi.

The next step is for us to book your tickets, stay and activities in Abu Dhabi. To do this, please go to www.xx_xx_x by 23:59 AEST 16 March 2022 to accept your trip. If you miss this date, we will unfortunately have to offer this trip to another member. Please also ensure that you input your personal details exactly as they’re written in your passport as we’ll need precise information to issue your tickets.

If you or your companion isn’t residing in Sydney, don’t worry! We’ll organise your connecting flight with Virgin Australia to get you there in time.

If you’d like to extend your stay or connect onto anywhere else with our Etihad network, go for it. Please just make sure you reference that in that in form, and we’ll change your return leg to another date. (Note: the additional flight and stay would be at your own expense).

Throughout the celebration flight and visit, we’ll be taking some photos and videos for future use, hope you don’t mind.

For more information, please see the attached terms and conditions.

Looking forward to welcoming you to our home.

Sincerely,

The Etihad Guest team
