Avianca LifeMiles is currently offering up to 48% off selected award flights on Star Alliance partner airlines. By combining this deal with the current deal on buying LifeMiles, you could fly Business Class from Singapore to Los Angeles – as an example – for less than half the usual price! This promotion is running until Tuesday, 18 September 2018.
The discounted LifeMiles awards are available on a range of intra-Asia flights, as well as routes between Asia and North America. A full list of applicable routes is available on the LifeMiles website. Unfortunately the discounts do not apply to any routes to or from Australia.
Avianca LifeMiles are normally sold for USD33 per thousand. But there is currently a promo on buying LifeMiles, with up to 130% bonus miles available if you purchase at least 101,000 miles. Slightly smaller bonuses are available on smaller purchases. This promotion also ends on 18 September.

48% is the maximum discount available as part of this promotion and in reality is only available on Economy redemptions between Tokyo and Shanghai. Other discounts apply to other routes. Discounts are available in all classes of travel – including Business and First Class – for travel on any Star Alliance airlines on the specified routes. You may travel any time in the next year; to get the discount you’ll just need to book by next Tuesday.
In total there are around two dozen routes with discounted LifeMiles awards available. Here are some of the routes of interest to Australians:
- Singapore to Seoul, Taipei, Narita, Los Angeles or Chicago
- Hong Kong to Seoul, Beijing, Los Angeles or San Francisco
- Shanghai to Tokyo, Osaka, New York or Los Angeles
- Taipei to Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco or New York
- Bangkok to Seoul
The LifeMiles award discount is automatically applied when you search for award flights on the LifeMiles website. For example, Business Class awards from Singapore to Los Angeles are currently on special for 67,000 miles (normally 78,000 miles).
There are two options available at this price on a random date that we searched – one itinerary via Taipei with EVA Air, and another via Shanghai with Singapore Airlines and United:
If you were to pay for 117,000 miles during the current promotion, you would receive enough bonus miles to book 2x return Business Class flights from Singapore to Los Angeles for USD3,861 (~$5,377). That’s less than $2,700 each for return Business class tickets and less than half the normal price! Similar discounts are also possible on many other routes.
