Credit card sign-up bonuses are one of the easiest ways to accumulate frequent flyer points quickly and relatively cheaply! Just by applying for a credit card and paying the annual fee, you can earn thousands of frequent flyer points towards your next trip.

If you’re thinking about applying for a new credit card, why not take advantage of these great sign-up deals and top up your frequent flyer points? To help you out, here is a selection of the top 5 Australian credit card sign-up deals for January 2019:

1. ANZ Frequent Flyer Black – 120,000 Qantas points + 75 Qantas status credits

This excellent ANZ offer is still on. You can earn 120,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points by signing up for a new ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card. That’s almost enough Qantas points to book a Oneworld round-the-world award in Economy! This card has a $425 annual fee, but ANZ is currently offering $150 cashback on this annual fee. To get the bonus points and $150 cashback, you would need to spend at least $7,500 on the card within 3 months of approval.

In addition to this, ANZ is offering 75 bonus Qantas status credits if you apply for the card by 31 March 2019. This will make it easier for you to earn Qantas status. To receive the status credit booster, you would need to book a new return Qantas flight (or 2x one-way flights) using your ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card and travel before 30 June 2019.

2. Westpac Altitude Black MasterCard & Amex Bundle – 120,000 Qantas points

Earn up to 120,000 bonus Qantas points with the Westpac Altitude Black MasterCard and American Express bundle. That’s enough points for a return Qantas Business Class ticket from Australia to many destinations in Asia.

You can earn 80,000 bonus Qantas (or Altitude) points with a new Westpac Altitude Black credit card. You can also earn an additional 40,000 bonus points by bundling this with the new American Express Westpac Altitude Black card. The Westpac Altitude Black card has a $250 annual fee, plus a $50 fee to opt-in to Qantas Rewards. The Amex companion card has an annual fee of $199, so in total you’d be spending $499 per year. To earn the full suite of bonus points, you would need to spend $3,000 on each card within 90 days of approval. This offer expires on 2 April 2019.

3. Qantas Premier Platinum – 100,000 Qantas points

Qantas is currently offering up to 100,000 points if you sign up for a new Qantas Premier Platinum credit card. That’s enough Qantas points for 12.5 one-way Economy flights between Sydney and Brisbane or Melbourne.

This card has an annual fee of $299, which is currently being halved to $149 in the first year. You’ll earn 70,000 bonus Qantas points by spending at least $3,500 on the card within 90 days of approval, and another 30,000 Qantas points when renewing the card (at the full rate) for a second year. This offer expires on 28 February 2019.

4. Virgin Money Velocity High Flyer – 90,000 Velocity points

You’re looking for something other than Qantas points? You can earn a handy 90,000 bonus Virgin Velocity points this month with a new Virgin Money Velocity High Flyer credit card. That’s enough Velocity points for 3 Business Class upgrades between Perth and Australia’s east coast from discounted Economy tickets – or 9 upgrades from Freedom fares!

This card has a $289 annual fee, but you’ll receive a $129 Virgin Australia flight credit and two Virgin Australia Lounge passes each year. To earn the 90,000 bonus points, you’d need to spend at least $3,000 each month on the card for the first 3 months.

During January you can also earn 60,000 Velocity points with the Virgin Money Velocity Flyer card. This card has a lower annual fee of $129 (halved in the first year). With that offer, you’d earn 20,000 points for each month that you spend $1,500 on the card during the first three months.

5. St George Amplify Signature – 80,000 Qantas points or 100,000 Amplify points

This card has an annual fee of $279 (which may be reduced or waived in the first year) and comes with a handy bonus of 80,000 Qantas points, or 100,000 Amplify Rewards points if you opt-in to Amplify Rewards. 100,000 Amplify points can be converted to 50,000 Velocity points, KrisFlyer miles or Enrich miles. To receive the bonus points, you would need to spend $4,000 on the card within 90 days of card approval.
