Well I had't read the article, but after several years as Best Western (BWR) platinum I was downgraded to blue as punishment for not staying enough. I went for a status match to Accor Platinum and they sent me Diamond Select.

From bottom to top sounds pretty tough but as a platinum member all I got was a free bottle of water (honoured about one stay in three) but as a diamond select member I het ... a free bottle of water. No promise of upgrades at any level. No wonder I didn't stay enough.

The points bonus does jump from 15% to 50% though.
