Virgin Australia Sparks Hong Kong Price War

Virgin Australia will begin direct flights from Sydney to Hong Kong from 2 July. To celebrate the new route’s launch, cheap flights to Hong Kong are now on sale from just $529 return and Business class is available from just $1,742 return!

Virgin’s entry on the Sydney-Hong Kong route is great if you’re a Virgin Australia flyer. But it’s also good news if you prefer to fly with Qantas or Cathay Pacific because Virgin has added fresh competition to the route. Both Qantas and Cathay Pacific have matched Virgin Australia’s cheap airfares to Hong Kong, sparking a price war. So if you’re looking for cheap flights to Hong Kong, now is the perfect time to book!

The new Virgin Australia flights from Sydney to Hong Kong complement Virgin’s existing Melbourne-Hong Kong services.

These fares are available for various travel dates between 18 July and 13 September 2018. The sale ends on Monday 9 April 2018.

Cheap Qantas flights to Hong Kong

  • Melbourne to Hong Kong from $529 return (direct)
  • Sydney to Hong Kong from $548 return (direct)
  • Brisbane to Hong Kong from $589 return (direct)
  • Adelaide to Hong Kong from $589 return (via Melbourne)
  • Canberra to Hong Kong from $589 return (via Sydney)

The fares are available for travel between 18 July and 13 September 2018. The sale ends on Thursday 12 April 2018.

Cheap Cathay Pacific flights to Hong Kong

  • Melbourne to Hong Kong – from $526 return (direct)
  • Sydney to Hong Kong – from $559 return (direct)
  • Adelaide to Hong Kong – from $596 return (direct)
  • Brisbane to Hong Kong – from $603 return (direct)

Note that these fares book into “O” class, which is ineligible to earn Qantas points and status credits. Once again, these are available for travel between 18 July and 13 September 2018. The sale ends on Monday 9 April 2018.

Premium Economy and Business class fares

There are also some cheap flights to Hong Kong available in Premium Economy and Business class.

Qantas is currently offering Premium Economy tickets for $1,499 return from most major Australian cities (for travel via Sydney). Qantas Business class to Hong Kong is also available at $2,899 return.

But Virgin Australia’s Business class fares to Hong Kong are unbeatable at present. Virgin Australia is advertising Business class fares to Hong Kong from $2,679 return.
