Purchase & Redeem Alaska Airlines miles for $945 and fly Business class to Hong Kong!

Alaska Airlines is currently offering up to 40% bonus miles when you purchase Mileage Plan miles before 1 July. These miles can then be redeemed with any partner airline on selected routes.

Cathay Pacific is one of Alaska’s partner airlines, and Alaskan miles can be redeemed to fly to Hong Kong. From any Cathay Pacific destination in Australia or New Zealand, you’ll need 30,000 Alaska Airlines miles for a one-way Business class ticket to Hong Kong. That’s 60,000 miles for a round-trip ticket.

If you were to buy those 60,000 miles during the current promotion, they would cost you just USD1,271 (~$1,705). When redeeming the miles, you’ll just need to pay a partner airline booking fee of USD12.50 (~$17) and around USD125 (~$168) in taxes. So, with all taxes and fees included, a round-trip would cost just $1,890 ($945 each way).

If you were to buy 30,000 miles and only fly one-way, this would cost around $1,067.

Cathay is well-known for its excellent Business class product and on-board service. Finding Business class award availability can be challenging, particularly during school holidays. But if you’re a little flexible with dates (and which city you depart from) then you can usually find award seats. Redemptions in Premium Economy and Economy are also possible, but the number of miles required is only slightly lower than a Business class award.

Cathay Pacific flies to Hong Kong from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and Cairns. In New Zealand, Cathay Pacific flies to Auckland and will also operate seasonal direct flights to Christchurch during the summer (December to February).

Note: You will need to have been a member of the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program when the “bonus miles” promotion was announced to use this offer. If you’re not already a member, you may wish to sign up (it’s free and takes just a few minutes online) so that you don’t miss out on future offers!
