American Airlines is offering bonus AAdvantage miles in addition to a 10% discount on miles purchased by 8 February 2018.

With the current American Airlines Buy Miles promotion, you’ll get 10% off when buying at least 20,000 AAdvantage miles. There are also bonus AAdvantage miles on offer, with the bonus amount increasing as you buy more miles:

American Airlines AAdvantage miles normally cost USD31.71 ($39) per thousand when bought full-price. There’s also a USD30 ($37) processing charge per transaction. But with this offer you can purchase miles for around USD20 per thousand, or 2 cents per mile.

This is not quite the best deal we’ve seen from AAdvantage. If you’re in need of extra miles now, it’s not a bad offer… otherwise we’d suggest waiting for a better one. American Airlines “buy miles” deals come around regularly, so the next promo will likely be in around month.

American Airlines AAdvantage miles can be redeemed for flights on American Airlines and other oneworld airlines including Qantas, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines and Malaysia Airlines. The number of miles required for AAdvantage award flights is relatively low, and there are no fuel surcharges for Qantas awards. This makes AAdvantage miles a valuable currency for booking Qantas Business class flights, especially on longer domestic routes. AAdvantage miles can also be redeemed for flights on Etihad Airways.

It can make sense to purchase miles if the cost of the miles is lower than the value of the ticket they’re redeemed for. When redeeming miles for flights in premium cabins, this is often the case. However, you’ll only be able to redeem miles for flights with available award seats.

If it’s your first time buying AAdvantage miles, it may take up to 72 hours for the miles to land in your account. If you’re worried about losing an award seat while waiting for the miles to credit, you can call American Airlines to hold the award booking while you wait. If you’ve bought miles before, subsequent purchases should post instantly.

To purchase AAdvantage miles, you’ll need to have already been a member of the American Airlines frequent flyer program for at least 30-60 days. If you’re not already a member, you may wish to sign up now for access to next month’s promotion.

There is an annual purchase limit of 150,000 miles, excluding bonus AAdvantage miles.
