Australia to Singapore from $953 Return in ScootPlus

If you’re looking for a cheap ticket to Singapore, and don’t want to fly Economy, ScootPlus could be a great compromise.

ScootPlus is the premium cabin on Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines. Previously marketed as ScootBiz, the product’s rebranding to “ScootPlus” perhaps more accurately reflects the on-board product. It’s not Business Class, and doesn’t claim to be. But the seat is very similar to Premium Economy on other airlines – while being priced at a similar level to Economy Class on Qantas or Singapore Airlines!

Passengers booked in ScootPlus receive a wide leather seat with more legroom at the front of the plane. ScootPlus tickets also include 30kg of checked baggage, a 15kg carry-on allowance, priority check-in, priority boarding, a complimentary meal on board and a complimentary alcoholic drink. (Yes, that’s just one drink.)

ScootPlus passengers on the airline’s Boeing 787s also receive free wifi, but only 30MB worth of data. That’s barely enough to do anything.

Overall, think of ScootPlus as Jetstar Business Class with fewer on-board amenities. It’s basically a Premium Economy seat, but it’s quite comfortable – especially if you’re able to choose a daytime flight in both directions.

Great ScootPlus airfares from Australia to Singapore

Perhaps the best part about ScootPlus is the price. Airfares obviously vary depending on your travel dates, but there are many ScootPlus flights currently available between Sydney, Melbourne or Perth and Singapore for around $500 one-way.

For example, you could fly from Perth to Singapore in ScootPlus from $471.40 one-way, and back again from $480.92.

Some of the ScootPlus fares from Sydney and Melbourne to Singapore are also very reasonable. Here’s an example from Melbourne to Singapore for $1,083.57 return:

Flying from Sydney is slightly more expensive, but not by much:

These flights are available to book on the Scoot website.

You don’t necessarily have to book a return trip to access these low prices. Scoot flights are charged as one-way airfares. So you could also use ScootPlus to fly one-way between Australia and Singapore, without having to pay a premium for booking a one-way ticket.

Scoot also currently flies between Gold Coast Airport and Singapore, but will end this service in July 2023. The ScootPlus pricing from Gold Coast doesn’t seem to be as good as Sydney, Melbourne or Perth, anyway.

Jetstar also serves the Melbourne-Singapore route. Its Business Fare pricing is similar to that of ScootPlus on selected travel dates.

Travelling onwards from Singapore to Europe

If you’re looking for a cheap way to get to Europe, without flying Economy, you could even consider using ScootPlus to position to Singapore. From there, you can pick up Premium Economy and Business Class flights on full-service airlines for significantly less than you’d pay out of Australia.

For example, Finnair Premium Economy Light fares from Singapore to European destinations including Paris, Milan, Rome, Berlin, Hamburg, Prague and Dublin are just over $2,000 return. (Note that fares including checked baggage cost a little bit more.)

Business Class airfares from Singapore to Europe start from around $3,000 return, for example, on Vietnam Airlines from Singapore to London via Ho Chi Minh City.

We have flown SccootPlus, it was called ScootBiz, on our first trip, several times. For us it is a very useful way to get to Singapore and pick up J flights much, much cheaper than out of Perth. As long as you just treat it as a way to avoid paying the Australia tax and accept that all you will get is a biggish seat and a basic meal you will be fine.

The advantages I have seen are -:

- near enough a Premium Economy seat and legroom. For us this makes the flight much more comfortable than a Y seat on 'full service' airlines. And for about the same price as that Y seat.

- the 15 kg Cabin Baggage and 30 kg checked baggage allowance is more than we have ever needed.

- Priority boarding is fiercely enforced. Any trespassers are quickly sent off to the normal queue.

- Relationship with SQ. On one trip their B787's had been grounded with the well known Rolls Royce engine problems. We were transferred to an old SQ B777 fitted with the Regional J seats. The IFE was available and we got full Y meals plus all the Tea, Coffee and non-alcoholic drinks we wanted.

- The cabin crew have been fine. Not that they have a lot of service runs to do or items to handout but they have all been pleasant.

Disadvantages -:

Food is at just about a $5 hawker level. But as it is only a 5 hour flight Per -Sin this has not been a concern.

No IFE - as Matt said the 30MB allowance is laughable. On our first trip they had free streaming of some movies and TV shows but in line with
their ethos to offer nothing for free this has long been canned. I just load up my tablet or PC and watch them. There is a free power outlet for the ScootPlus seats. In Y you have to pay for power.

You only get a couple of small plastic cups of water apart from the can of drink with the meal. Theoretically you are not supposed to bring 'outside' drinks or food on board. On one flight the cabin crew bought around more water.

Scoot also fly their a320 to Perth and if you are half-witted like my son you can accidentally book yourself in Y on one of those flights. He tells me that even in Y there was a world of difference between the Scoot B787 and the A320..

A photo of the meal I got in 2019 is below. For comparison below that is a 2018 meal. You can see that cost cutting to save even a few cents is still king.

Nice article.

As stated at a similar price JQ Business (or StarClass as they should have kept it) offers better food and bev.

And AirAsia Premium tops the hard product with an angled lie flat seat.

Also on Scoot is Scoot-in-silence, which is good value as long as not travelling with kids.

Yes, very interesting article. Made me think about my upcoming United award booking (CBR-MEL-BKK-SIN in J) which cost 50,0000 miles and $110. This was to connect with another booking in SQ J to LHR.

So I checked the availability of ScootPlus SYD-SIN and found a daylight flight on a suitable date next month for $550. So I decided to cancel the award booking for a full refund (thanks United, immediate online confirmation and no fees) and book ScootPlus and was able to select seat 1A (I like the bulkhead).

I've flown ScootBiz in the past and have been quite happy with it for the price, even though you only get one free alcoholic drink. My budget can probably stretch to buying a couple more on board if needed, but I plan to spend a couple of hours in the Amex Centurion lounge and/or The House before the flight.

My daughter is going to Europe in July (unfortunately forced on here due to work constraints), with the marked differences in cost of flights ex Sydney and ex Asia a positioning flight was in order and Scoot is a very good option in my view. If you accept it for what it is and make it a day time flight its fine.

Indeed, as I discovered today when I passed 5000 KF Elite miles earned this year, if I next fly Scoot I get an extra 1000 KF miles on top of my regular earn. Also 20% off my next Scoot booking.
