Flat Beds to Auckland for Under $500 return

Air Asia X may not be the first airline you consider for a trip to New Zealand. But right now, the Malaysian carrier has some very attractive premium airfares to Auckland.

Air Asia X flies daily from the Gold Coast to Auckland at convenient times. The outbound flight departs Gold Coast around 11am, arriving in Auckland mid-afternoon. The return flight to the Gold Coast is in the evening – perfect for returning from a long weekend. Continuing from Kuala Lumpur, this service is one of several fifth-freedom tag flights from Australia to New Zealand.

So, what exactly do you get with an Air Asia X Premium Flatbed ticket? Well for starters, you get a spacious seat that converts to an angle-flat bed. The bed is not fully lie-flat, but it’s a comfortable option for the 3-hour flight to New Zealand. You also get a pillow, blanket and an on-board meal, although drinks are not included. You’ll have access to priority check-in counters, baggage and boarding, and a generous 40kg baggage allowance.

The Premium Flatbed experience with Air Asia X to Auckland does not include the full service you would expect flying Business class with Qantas, Virgin Australia or Air New Zealand. You won’t receive any lounge access, amenity kits or champagne on board. But the hard product is unbeatable for the price paid. By comparison, Virgin Australia normally charges $1,585 for a round-trip Business class ticket on the Gold Coast-Auckland route, and the Business seats are recliners.
