It has been a tough year for most Australian businesses, especially those involved in the tourism industry. But for the people of Kangaroo Island in South Australia, the coronavirus pandemic came right on the back of a nightmare summer of bushfires.
After visiting Kangaroo Island this fortnight, Matt takes a close look at how these dual crises have impacted the island, its businesses and its people. With borders now closed and international visitors no longer coming, the island’s tourism businesses are struggling. But the island’s residents are still smiling and doing the best they can. If you live in South Australia, Queensland or the Northern Territory, it’s well worth considering a visit now.
Also in episode 43 of the AFF on AIR podcast, Matt discusses what it’s like flying around Australia at the moment as Qantas reopens its lounges and Virgin Australia looks on track to finalise its sale to Bain Capital in the near future. There is now a clear difference between the Qantas and Virgin Australia experiences.
Finally in this episode, Matt explains the hierarchy of Qantas award availability.
