Airfare of the Week: China Southern Business Class Madrid – Brisbane from $4,988 Return

Our newest Airfare of the Week belongs to China Southern Airlines, which has round-trip Business Class fares from Madrid (MAD) to Brisbane (BNE) from EUR3,153 (~AU$4,988).
This is a Europe-originating fare, so it is best suited to travellers who are already in Europe or who want to add a cheap Business Class trip home to Brisbane onto a separate ticket to Spain. With travel available during the Australian summer, it’s a well-timed deal for anyone visiting family or escaping the European winter.
Here are the full details of this great Business Class airfare from Madrid to Brisbane.

On-board product
China Southern uses its Boeing 787-9 aircraft between Madrid and Guangzhou. While China Southern has three layout variations of this type, over the last month all aircraft operating this route have featured lie-flat seats in Business Class.

Flights between Guangzhou and Brisbane use either the Airbus A350 or Airbus A330 aircraft. All of China Southern’s A350s and most of its A330s feature lie-flat Business Class seats in a staggered 1-2-1 layout with direct aisle access. There is a small Airbus A330 sub-fleet that has an older 2-2-2 layout. Check the seat map before booking!
Earning points & status credits with this airfare
This fare books into “I” class. While China Southern isn’t part of any alliance, it has direct partnerships with a handful of airlines. You could earn redeemable points for this airfare in programs including:
- American Airlines AAdvantage
- British Airways Club (Avios)
For example, if you credited these flights to either program, you could earn around 21,700 redeemable miles. American Airlines AAdvantage program could be a good option as Qantas Business Class redemptions anywhere within Australia cost just 20,000 miles one-way, and the taxes are very low.
Neither program awards status-qualifying credit on flights operated and marketed by China Southern. So if you’re chasing status, this isn’t the ticket for you.
