These flights connect in Honolulu and are operated by Alaska under the Hawaiian Airlines brand. Better still, the fare allows a free stopover in Honolulu in each direction.
Alaska Airlines is a member of the Oneworld alliance, so you can earn points & status credits in a range of Oneworld programs, including Qantas Frequent Flyer and Alaska’s own Atmos Rewards.
Here are the full details of this great Economy Class airfare from Sydney to Los Angeles.

On-board product
Flights between Sydney and Honolulu use Hawaiian Airlines’ Airbus A330-200 aircraft, with Economy Class seats in a 2-4-2 layout. If you are travelling as a couple, the pairs of seats by the window are a great option.

Between Honolulu and Los Angeles, you will usually fly on an Airbus A320-family narrow-body aircraft, with Economy Class seats in a 3-3 layout.
Meals are included on the long-haul sector between Sydney and Honolulu, but not on flights between Honolulu and Los Angeles. Economy Class fares to and from Australia include one 23kg checked bag. Hawaiian Airlines also offers free Starlink Wi-Fi on all its Airbus aircraft.
Earning points & status credits with this airfare
This fare books into “G” class. As Alaska Airlines is a member of the Oneworld alliance, you could earn points and status credits for this airfare in a range of programs, including:
- Alaska Atmos Rewards
- Qantas Frequent Flyer
- American Airlines AAdvantage
- British Airways Club
Atmos Rewards is the real standout here. Atmos members earn 100% of the distance flown on this fare, which works out to around 15,250 points for the round trip. That is enough for a return Economy Class reward flight or one-way Business Class reward seat in the Asia-Pacific region for flights under 1,500 miles. This includes routes such as Sydney or Brisbane to New Zealand.
You will also earn around 15,250 status points, which is more than three-quarters of the way to Atmos Silver (Oneworld Ruby) at 20,000 status points.
Atmos also awards status points on reward flights booked through Alaska, including on Qantas. So if you used the points from this trip for a return reward flight across the Tasman, you could add roughly another 2,700-2,900 status points (depending on whether you flew from Sydney or Brisbane). That would take you to around 18,000 status points – within striking distance of Silver.
If you would rather credit these flights to Qantas Frequent Flyer, you could earn at least 4,450 Qantas Points and 120 status credits.
