Virgin Launches a Third Double Status Credits Offer in 2026 (June 2026)

Just a month after it’s last promotion, Virgin Australia has brought back double status credits – but only for a tiny travel window.

Velocity’s new Double Status Credits offer is running until 30 June 2026, for travel until just 12 July 2026.

This is the fourth time so far in 2026 that Velocity has publicly offered bonus status credits. In addition to the May promo, the airline also offered bonus status credits between January and March, and double status credits on Virgin Australia Holidays bookings in March. Perhaps these once sought-after promotions are becoming too common…

Details of the latest Velocity promotion

The mechanics of this promotion are basically the same as Velocity’s last promotion in May, although it’s only for status credits, not points. To take advantage of this offer, you’ll need to register on the Velocity Frequent Flyer website, or via the app. Note you must be logged in to see the offer.

Status credits can help you to upgrade to a higher Velocity status tier, or retain your current tier. By earning double status credits, you’d be effectively earning 1 status credit per $6 (instead of $12) spent on Virgin Australia Choice, Flex or Business fares.

Eligible flights, booking & travel dates

Virgin Australia marketed and operated domestic, trans-Tasman and international short-haul flights are eligible to earn double Velocity Points or status credits with this promotion.

However, Virgin Australia flights to Doha are not eligible. Any flights booked as part of a long-haul or partner airline itinerary, or with Virgin Australia Holidays, would also be ineligible.

The eligible booking dates for this promotion are 17-30 June 2026. You would need to fly between 17 June and 12 July 2026.

See the Velocity Frequent Flyer website for a full list of T&Cs for this offer.

Is this double status credit promotion really an offer?

Following Velocity’s last promotion, we asked whether bonus status credit offers are becoming too common. This is now the fourth promotion in 2026, and we’re not even halfway through the year!

This offer, especially with its tiny travel window, seems more like a cash grab before the end of the financial year. It’s a nice boost for people who need to fly in the next 3.5 weeks, but it won’t be useful for the vast majority of travellers.

Also, so many bonus status credit offers devalues the promotion, and also de-incetivises frequent flyers to book during normal periods. Instead, they can just wait for a new bonus status credit offer – which, as the past 6 months has shown, will be just around the corner!

Very limited travel window for this one.

IMHO the only VA DSC offers worth using these days are the VA Holidays ones.

Yes, especially if you fly in J! My recent trip to Brisbane was under $800 inclusive of one night's stay at a 4* hotel. Earnt 160 SC which would have cost me $1920 under the current earn rate, plus let's say $250-$300 for a nice hotel room.

Why are they offering these almost useless DSC offers when they want to thin out the elites???

More people can now get to Platinum Plus then wonder why they bothered trying!

Maybe they don't want to thin out the elites. I don't think anyone at Virgin has ever said that's something they're looking to do. We're all just assuming it.

Likely an end of year financial year sales boost

$$$$ DSC are revenue generating exercises.

Which isn't surprising since we're all assuming on QF's side they have soft forward domestic bookings because they have been running promotions non stop for a month now. Likely VA's side has also seen a softening of demand too.

The business flyer one in Jan-March this year is also good value too, provided the travel window suits.

Velocity’s former CEO explicitly told me that one of the reasons for the status changes was to reduce lounge overcrowding.

This promo is 100% aimed at addressing weak forward bookings for VA over the next month. I don’t think there’s any long-term strategy behind it in terms of the Velocity program. (If anything, having such regular DSC offers just undermines both VA and the Velocity program in the longer term.)

Absolutely, I booked Melbourne to Sunny Coast for later this year on DSC (VA Holidays), J in both directions, with family pooling.
That'll be 160 each way (320) x 2 = 640 status credits, bingo! That's most of what I need for the entire year to maintain Platinum.
So I've already secured Plat up until my review date this year (Aug), and most of what I need already for the following year.
If VA Holidays does DSC again, I can surprisingly see myself getting the Plat + and all those benefits...it doesn't offer (although the 75% marketed and flown by you might kill that).

I would say a large chunk (majority) of the population doesn't "chase" status. Thoughts? If this is the case, I'd still expect to see those numbers in the lounges continue to dwindle.
