Rex will commence Boeing 737 flights from Melbourne to Hobart on 17 August 2023, expanding the number of destinations in the airline’s jet network to seven.

The daily Rex flights will depart Melbourne at 12.15pm, returning from Hobart at 2.15pm. Fares are on sale from today, starting at $79 one-way in Economy (including checked baggage) and $349 for Business Class. Economy passengers can also bid for a Business Class upgrade.

“Our long-standing commitment to Tasmania spans more than 40 years through our regional airline services. For too long, Hobart has had to endure sky-high airfares because of capacity constraints and price gouging by our competitors,” Rex Deputy Chairman John Sharp said.

Rex will also start daily jet services from Sydney to Adelaide later this month. The airline already connects the two cities via Melbourne.

Further expansion could be on the way as Rex adds two more Boeing 737-800s to its fleet of seven jet aircraft. Perth has been rumoured as a possible new destination.

Rex also has 61 Saab 340 aircraft which it uses to fly to regional destinations, including Burnie, Devonport and King Island in Tasmania.

There’s still no sign of the long-promised Rex frequent flyer program. The airline had announced last year that it would be up and running by the third quarter of 2022, but this did not eventuate.
